Hey guys Ive got this xbox 1.6 here and it would seem that somehow the customer managed to mess up his Eeprom, normally I would just use a bios with a embedded Eeprom to start the system and fix the Eeprom, but I regret you cant embed 1.6bioses with eeproms(atleast to my knowledge).

So I grabbed my new MiniPro TL866 programer, desoldered the Eeprom and tried to see if I can read it back, but aether the prom is dead or my programer doesn't support it, as it cant auto detect the Eeprom, and doesnt list anything with that exact model number.

I tried to look online for a l02 5r92w datasheet but cant find anything but generic L02 specsheet and that doesn't provide me with enough information to find a suitable replacement for it?

So does any one know any Eeproms I can use to replace the l02 5r92w that is preferably compatible with my programmer , that I can just burn a donor Eeprom to and be done with it.

Or maybe theres another method of fixing a 1.6 Xbox eeprom that I am not aware of?

I'd say it's easier to install a modchip, as there would be no need for an EEPROM that way. Since the BIOS bypasses checks with the EEPROM.

Already have modchip and it would seem that Evox M8 doesnt bypass these checks :),well atleast not fully.

Normally I would just embed a bios into it but that appear to be possible anymore :(

Try putting non-supported lock drive, it seems the bios is trying to pair with the EEPROM that way.

Hexigon, it doesnt get far enough for HDD lock to be a problem, as it panics as soon as you press the power button (Red flashing),regardless of what drive is plugged in (or not) :p

My best guess is he flashed it with a 1.0 Eeprom or killed it entirely.

    Success!!!

Its a BR24L02w (SOP-8) ,read what was left on the eeprom, it was definitely corrupted or bad 0000-0040 was all 0's and lacked any info, reprogrammed with a donor 1.6 eeprom, and the system booted up without a hiccup, drive is gone tough, it was locked and the area where it was stored on the original prom, is incorrect :( ,and I am not going to mess around by swapping boards...

Thanks again Bad-Ad, your the best!!

Wow thats amazing, thanks Bad-ad, will have to test it tommorow though as I dont have access to a pc with ide at the moment :p

But thank you, I owe you a scotch(or what ever you drink) next time I am in the UK!!!!

    Edit Update:
, sadly the drive wont unlock it rejects all the erase command (and the alternative master codes dont work), I think the guy messed with it aswell, as it literally only has two screws, not the end of the world, will swap it for a bigger drive, its only 8gig in size :p

There is an unofficial version of FlashBIOS that can rewrite your eeprom with a dummy (but valid) one, even for an 1.6 Xbox, I've used it once when I tried changing the console ID number (unban from Xbox Live). Check carefully at the "usual places". Of course you might run into troubles for unlocking the HDD but I see this has been discussed earlier.

EDIT: the name you are looking for is : flash bios 3.0.3 unauthorized.

The eeprom is crucial to boot the Xbox normally, even with a modchip and an unlocked HDD. The eeprom's data contains the console region as well as available video modes. Plus, no hacked bios were designed to bypass these checks, only media flag and executable signatures. Try to flash a 1.0 eeprom onto a 1.6 Xbox and you'll be in trouble, even with a modchip.

Only some 4th gen modchips can boot without a valid eeprom. I can recall Xenium and even with that, you can only boot to the onboard OS (which is enough to flash another eeprom image). Other than that, some Xecuter 2 bioses can have an eeprom embedded in them and that would solve the problem but only on 1.0-1.5 Xboxes.

Thanks for the heads up, but it was a lot quicker to just desolder the eeprom and reprogram it in my programmer (with the correct chip setting, Thanks Bad_Ad!!)

Hardmod+Flash Bios, might be useful to someone without a eeprom programer, but now that I know how to do it, the next one will literally take 5mins to do :p

I have a WD80EB like harddrive and the url shows a unlock method, but it will errase the harddrive, is it posible to unlock a drive without erasing? I can use the hdd in the original xbox, but hot swapping is a pain (normaly its easy, but files come corrupted from this one) I properly dont have time to check this but if you know a method to get the unlock key from a DVT4 or unlock without erase, please post :p

Thanks for the link to X-S never saw it. Also, Yes, my dvt4 drive is locked, and 0000000 is not working. (can do checks in about 4 month from posting this message)

You can unlock it with the key, if it works in the xbox you have already. This will not erase the data.

The methods posted above is for when you do not have the key (so the data is already lost anyway - so wiping makes no difference).

Thx Bad_Ad, only, how do one get the key? the usual programms crash because its a DVt4 and they are written for retail.

Can you not run the unlocking tools directly on the DVT itself? resign evox or similar?

I know the eeprom tools crash with a dvt dump on the PC, not entirely sure about the dashboards though.

evox dint find any keys (dont remember it crashing) and some "modchip" tools for the xbox either crashed or shown "unkown" or "NULL" like messages.
By hotswapping to a PC I was able to find some files, but using another HDD it was not getting locked. maybe I have to try a new HDD (was gonna try a larger HDD and dont use the original for preservation and data recovery)

So you still have access to the xbox that the drive originated from, have you tried dumping the eeprom, and using something like liveinfo on your computer to get the key back?

What revision is motherboard does the xbox have?

Once you have the key you can permanently unlock the hard drive :)

Edit: Thought I should mention, by try, I mean removed the eeprom from the motherboard and used a eeprom reader to read it back, as no xbox software seems to work for you :)
