I doubt it something tells me Cave knows they make more money off of the Gaijins now. How much of the slaes of Mehishisama Futara, Muchi Muchi pork/Pink Sweets and Espgaluda II were to Shmup lovers in the states? I think Deathsmiles did better here than Japan.
That's odd...recently I noticed the 360 getting a lot more shelf space. A few years ago I posted about the 360 usually having a single shelf of games and hardware pictures with a "sold out" sticker which was really their way of saying they didn't bother ordering any. It seems that nowadays in the stores I go into the 360 and the PS3 are on equal footing with portable devices taking the main stage. I guess it was just anecdotal. The new shitty twist I'm hearing about is that some developers aren't letting you get access to American content and extras. A friend tried to order new map packs for COD and they wouldn't allow it since it was an Asian game in Japan. I guess that means you can only order the content if you're located in the US or using a US game on a US console. If that's the new trend then Asian versions are going to suck....
You can get around this problem. Just make a UK or US account then download the DLC from the market place. I do that for all of my Asian releases. The last one I got was the Michael Jackson game for Kinect. To download anything I just log in to my UK account (Made only to download DLC data) then download away. The data downloaded with my UK account works fine once I log back in with my normal Japanese account. You will have to buy Microsoft points though for the account region. The Uk account will work with ALL Asian games. I buy points for that account from here - http://www.gamepointsnow.co.uk/ Yakumo
This is kind of a contradiction seeing as 360 is the platform of choice for arcade developers. 360 has the largest catalgue of shmups, surprises me the 360 is getting phased out. :/
Which is why I don't think it really is getting phased out. I think Edge UK were the people to break this story. So take that as you will also going on the XBL market place on my Japanese Live account there's nothing at all to indicate any truth to this. Also Phantom Breaker Sucks
I haven't seen anything to suggest the BIG retailers are phasing it out. And the independent stores I go to actually all have big 360 sections :-0
To put it in perspective how many units did the Dreamcast move in Japan before it's untimely death? something around 1 million right? 360 in Japan 1 million YEAH...even more evidence to my theory the 360 is the Dreamcast 2 but also the fact remains one of the most beloved systems of all time didn't sell that well in Japan and look how many games that thing has!
If it was so beloved then people would have bought them... it's like calling the NGP one of the most beloved handhelds of all time.
Sweetness. I already use a US account with a US credit card. I'm guessing that means I'm good to go. I'll check out Amazon for some games. Before I was using Play-Asia.com. The whole XBOX region issue has been a pain in the ass, maybe that's why it hasn't done so well here. With my US account I get shown US content, but I can't download any of it (TV/movies) since I'm in Japan. And Japan and the US accounts get different access to different demos so sometimes when I want to play a demo with some Japanese friends I'm not able to find it through my account. Apple is kind of weird too...Japanese iPad....US account and credit card. With Apple I can get the US content like movies, but I tried to sync a digital copy of Tron that comes with the Japanese DVD and it said that I was "out of region" with my US account even though I was in Japan with a Japanese iPad and Japanese DVD...heh.
LA Noire on the PS3 offers a better experience overall. The framerate on both the 360 and PS3 versions are locked down to a max of 30fps but the 360 version dips lower than the PS3 version at the same points in game. Not a whole lot mind you, 2-3fps for the most part. And the shadows are superior in the PS3 version. Though to be fair I never noticed until I saw some side by side comparison shots. Frankly neither the framerate nor the shadows are enough for me to say the PS3 version is vastly superior, just mildly. Which honestly is great because then you can see the game compete on level footing with factors such as pricing and which platform people have more friends on being the reasoning for platform purchase. Don't want to buy the "superior" version if it means you have 3 friends to play multiplayer with when the "lesser" model you can play with 150 people.
Somewhat. That post death trickle of relatively small print run games exclusive to Japan that Sega agreed to print, was longer than the hardware's production length.
