Im gonna be a pround owner of a 360 debug pretty soon but I just want to know if the 360 dev and debugs have a recovery disc just like on xbox 1 dev/debug kits. The debug unit works fine, its just something I want to know.
Hey thanks ProgrammingAce,I was pretty sure there was one but I just needed to be sure. Now I just need to hunt one down.
One? Heh. What makes you think there is just *one*? As a friendly tip, do make sure any disc you decide to run in your system is the *correct* disc for the system. Well, given the completely different architectures of the systems were you expecting any different?
So... how much do you want for it? :icon_bigg Also, if you didn't notice, there are four games for it up on ebay.
Well when I get it I really dont know if I want to sell it.But if I do I will let you know first.I saw those games on ebay, when I get the debug unit then I will worry about getting some 360 debug games. And to hl718 I completely forgot about the different versions of the recovery disc for the 360,I know about it on xbox 1 dev/debug kits.Dont want to recover with the wrong disc. The debug Im getting is the grey 360.There is only about 11 gigs left on the hard drive, maybe there will be some debug games on there I hope.
I'm not suprised. Unlike the Xbox debugs, each 360 debug has a specific serial number that is tied to the developer it is licensed to. If a debug were to be released into the wild, MS would be able to tell exactly where it sourced from as well as track it down as soon as it connected to Partner.Net. Out of curiosity though, what was the offering price? I'm just wondering what it took to convince someone to risk their job not to mention a huge ass lawsuit. -hl718
Well I offered him 400 dollars plus a modded xbox with a 120gb hdd.I made a thread on xbox scene that I was looking for a 360 debug and he contacted me first. But he had to back out of the deal or he would have lost his job, here is his exact words for his reason. Hey man. Got some bad news. Apparently, the magazine I work for turned out to be more organized than I thought. In short, they want the xbox back. So i can't sell it anymore. Sorry. This sucks, because I know they hadn't even opened it before, but now they say they want it. But I don't wanna piss them off, or piss of MS since they'd probably be contacted too. If, for some reason, i end up getting to keep it, you're first in line. But as of now, it's out of my hands. Sorry again.
In theory, the original xbox dev kits could be traced too. There's a unique identifier in the eeprom that gets transfered when you connect to partner net. Two problems though, first the system has to connect to partner net, which is fairly dificult if your game isn't currently propped up. Second, the system has to be reported as stolen, otherwise microsoft wouldn't know to look for it.
once you've gotten an 360 debug, go to the settings (prior the dashboard) there you can set it up to get all the marketplace stuff for free.
To connect to Partner.net all one has to do is create a Live ID on a debug. This can be easily done. And while the original Xbox wouldn't default to connected, the 360 wants to do so immediately. After all the online features are highly integrated into the system. The original Xbox kits could have been traced had MS kept on with proper serial numbers. Instead it opted to start using a generic number on many of them which meant tracing a system became impossible. The 360 does not have this issue. In short, if you have a 360 debug and you connect it to Partner.net, MS is quite capable of knowing about it if it wants to know. -hl718
Pikkon I been talking with three people from x-s that have the debug "reviewer" kits. They been jerking my chain for over 8 weeks now. Don't be surprised to get more emails or PM. I think two of them are the same person or different people trying to sell the same kit. The dollar amounts we were talking was $1000.00 to $2000.00. The $2000.00 is for a complete reviewer kit including all software, manuals and a few extras.
The serial numbers do get goofy later in the development cycle, but remember, the serial isn't the only unique identifier. The "XDK Factory Checksum" can be used to identify an individual kit, if microsoft so cared... Hell, as for tracking 360 debuggers... after the first 10 were stolen, microsoft started shipping them with GPS "lojack" style devices. Notice that after the second batch was stolen, they caught the theives within 4 hours... Personally I wouldn't go near a stolen 360 debugger.
