The units that have been offered to me are the game "reviewer" debug kits. Like this one http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/xbox-360/xbox-360-in-the-house-for-reals-137284.php. The people trying to sell them claim they can prove ownership. They are game reviewers or work in that field.
No "game reviewer" owns a debug kit. Period. The kits are licensed to corporations to be sure, and yes there are most certainly folks out there with kit in hand, but to get one NDAs were signed and loan agreements filled out, just as with major developers. Anyone claiming to "prove ownership" of a debug kit is flat out lying. Not to mention the little fact of, what do you think is going to happen when Mr. Game Reviewer tells his boss he can't review a new game because he doesn't have the kit anymore? 1) He'll cop to selling it and point the hounds at you -or- 2) He'll claim it was stolen and it'll get reported to MS. It'll be flagged as stolen and as soon as it hits Partner.net MS will be tracking it down. Do you really think that someone who is willing to risk his job and legal action is really going to cover for some anonymous person on a web board? I wouldn't put any faith in it myself. -hl718
