Recently, I obtained the dreaded 3 RROD Xbox 360 demo kit, so I did the X-clamp replacement fix, and that ended up fixing the RROD problem. However, now, the graphics look all distorted and I'm wondering what's the problem...Is it possible that there's too much stress(heat) on the GPU? It is not the AV cord, as we tested in another Xbox, so that option is void. Here are the pictures:
Its Either the scaler chip or The GPU. as you said it was having RROd problems I can probably say its the GPU. I dont know wether you should Tighten to losen it tho. Try Using VGA Cables if you have any around, Sometimes if its the scaler chip and you use a different type of cable ie Hdmi, Component, VGA it fixes it.
heat? i fix RROD's every day what method did u use? and yeah it looks like you fried the gpu weird looking or fried somthing else on the MB
The method I used was this: http://216.86.138.142/threelights.pdf Should I try to add more CPU paste to the GPU and either loosen or tighten the heatsink?
Its the GPU for the most, you can try and apply more pressure to the gpu but the x-clamp fix is just a temp fix.You would need a professional reball for a permanent fix.
Damn, don't really have the time these days to seek a professional...probably going to get rid of it..
@PhantasyStar I have a friend who does reballs 360's and PS3's They remove the chip reball and replace it. It fixes most rrod, and for ps3 it fixes blinking red light. He also offers the service on ebay, and charges around $150. I know he is a little backed up right now as he said he has 8 ps3's waiting to get done and he just bought a "lot" of rrod 360's to fix. If you think you want to get her fixed i can put you in touch with him, and he has references that you can check out so you know he is legit. pm me if you want his contact info.
How much thermal compound did you put on? You only want a THIN coating (ideally only a few mils thick).
