Well, I thought I'd never create an Xbox-related topic, oh well.... :banghead: This may be old news, but today I walked into a "Media Markt" store in Utrecht to find an Xbox 360 pod playing Call of Duty! Personally I wouldn't have expected them to turn up so fast, considering the time it normally takes for systems to cross the Atlantic. If this means PAL land is finally getting some more recognition, I'm very happy. Though this might just as well have been a US unit put there to gather some interest for the system.
They are in chicago best buys as well. I didn't get a cahnce to play them but my casual gaming friends said they were great. But then again anything with good graphics is "great" to them.
Actually I wasn't really blown away by the graphics, either. Sure, they look better than your average PS2 game, but it doesn't feel like going from 8 to 16 bit, certainly. Or perhaps my eyes are untrained from playing too many 2D games lately...
The demo graphics are on par with a 9800 pro, but not anywhere close to the pc level graphics they talked about. But these are just demos, but I was greatly unimpressed, but then again, all pre-release demos sucked. People seemed really impressed, but I think it is because of the hype, and no contrast to compare it to (say, mech assault 2which is hd 720, probably looks just as good if not better)
I wasn't too impressed with Call of Duty 2, but the Xbox 360 hasn't even been released yet. I'm waiting to see what can really be done with the system.
It blows a 9800pro out of the water. I wish my 9800 could pump out anything like that. I refer to CoD2, which looks stunning, just as good as my friends dual 7800 machine, if not better
heh, yea. The XBox 360 GPU is meant to be on par with an ATi Radeon R520 (and actually, it is said to slightly outperform the R520 with FSAA on at HD resolution....)! Certainly a tad better than a 9800 ....
The VGM: Whether or not the games make use of the abilities of the h/w, the hardware itself is MUCH better than the 9800, and as stated is Radeon r520 based. Info here: http://www.beyond3d.com/articles/xenos/ http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=27236 http://www.beyond3d.com/reviews/ati/r520/
well considering they did all this at the last minute, its a damn good job. Still i wonder if they will possibly port the rest of hl2 to xbox 360, or sya a complete game, i felt it wasnt done full justice on xbox, but considering the power they had to work with valva didnt do a bad job.
360 9800 pro. Admittidly 9800 is a stretch. I suppose the point I was making was that the first gen games are an insult in light of how much power the 360 has.
Definatly better than a 9800, and these are scaled down. Native on the 360 it's 1280x720 with FSAA. Certainly, PC's exist that play the game as well, but the fact that this is coming from a $399 box I can play on my 51" HDTV with all the bells and whistles at 60fps with Live support for 32 players using a headset *on my couch*, well, thats nice for sure
Eveyone has those developer provided screenshots. I played the demo for about an hour today, and it has several things that bothered me. Every time you shoot anything near the ground, it kicks up this mass of particle effect and you can't see shit. Anyone who has fired a real gun knows it doesn't create view obscuring fog when you shoot and happen to hit the ground. The a.i. sucks, and people just wander into death, and if you kill one of them, god forbid any friendly fire in a war game, you start the level over from the save point. The shallow gameplay on rails herds you to the destination, and it's just like COD. Move in the direction the immovable barricades direct youto go. Either way, I can't wait to see what games will look like in a year or two. I just hope 360 doesn't wind up as yet another dumping ground for pc titles like xbox. It shouldn't wind up as the "poor-man's pc", but sadly I think this is what 360 is destined to be if it yet again has poor support in Japan, which is pretty much assured.
(not to offend anybody but...) yuk! what's up with the horrible specular? that seem to be something many of the so called next-gen games seems to have a problem with =/
