Hello everyone! Finally got around to doing this thankfully. There's an obvious lack of information and documentation on the Winchester (360 E) Stress Kit, and I aim to correct this with this thread. I intend to update the thread with new information, and I'm always open to correcting any misinformation that I might get wrong. This is meant to be an active disscussion for the members here, and a friendly one at that.

As far as we know, there's four of these kits total that have left MS. This doesn't include the kits that were on Taobao coming direct from China. Until we get a teardown of one of those kits, I'm unsure about them.

Some interesting things to note about the Winchester Stress Kits:
    • There was never a sidecar designed to be fit to the Xbox 360 E, but they actually come with Sidecar daughterboards just like the Xbox 360 Slim XDK units.
    • The Winchester Stress Kits report as a "Test Kit" but it's unknown if adding the Sidecar would make it report as a "Development Kit"
    • The 1GB Mode found on the Xbox 360 Slim XDK units has been removed from the Winchester Stress Kit. This could be due to the fact that the Xbox 360 E and the Winchester motherboard were never intended to be sent out to developers for use like the previous XDK models.
    • On that note, thanks to @jakeeeenator for showing me, but the E Stress Kit might actually have a full 1GB of RAM installed on the board, but it's locked into running on 512MB imposed by software limitations.
    • The lowest Flash that can be installed on an E Stress Kit is 21256. Anything lower, and the remote recovery will give you an error saying the target kit is incompatible.

    Owners List:
@Digmac - One kit, with stress wires.
@jakeeeenator - One kit, without stress wires.
@XboxSurgeon - Two kits, one with stress wires, one without.

The E could be a Corona as matter-of-fact, I think all the E kits so far are Coronas. Unless @XboxSurgeon took one apart and it has the new Winchester CGPU without the IHS. But now that I think of it surgeon has a Winchester.

Not that it matters but that's one of the difference they have.
    Example

Also a small note, I'm sure the only reason they released a Winchester motherboard. and only made it to stress kits then went into production, was because it was meant to be retails only. It was made to stop the RGH hack you have to remove the CGPU to get two the post_out point.

Edit: You have to take off the heatsink to tell it's a Winchester and not a Corona

    Nice information you've compiled.

Since the E was released at the ending of the Xbox 360's life I assume MS had no need to make the E into a final dev kit, as they would just be loosing money at that point. And instead MS would continue selling their remaining slim finals, XNA final devs/tests, and Final Jasper devs/tests. (which they were/are doing.)

On an unrelated note the only other console(s) to not get a final dev kit version made is the Falcon as they only have prototype stress kits. Opus may of also have gotten a internal prototype stress kit but never a final version. If you see a xenon from 08 it's probably a re-purposed xenon final board, 009, or 010.

Any dev kit manufactured after June 2014 is a definite Winchester. Anything before is a definite Corona

@Digmac I can confirm that my kit doesn't have stress cables. It does however have a very detailed sticker on the side that says my kit has 1gb of memory. I don't really have any way of confirming this as it doesn't have an option to use the 1gb mode like some of the XDK consoles out there.

    Thanks for the tag though.

Hmm, very interesting. Mind PMing me a picture of the label? My kit sadly left MS without a shell. It would be much appreciated and any info we gather from it can be added to the thread.

@XboxSurgeon @Digmac What is the lowest recovery an XDK E can go down to? Is it 9199 like the XDK S units or something higher?

So I tried running the version lower than 21256.3, forget which one it is, but when I ran the remote recovery, it said it was incompatible with the target kit. Looks like 21256 is the lowest we can go, with .18 being the newest leaked version it can run.

I wouldn't risk it lower than that. It's just like a trinity/corona. Don't fek it up trying to do something risky. Friendly advice because I once jacked a trinity xdk up badly for well over a year trying to fix it. It ain't fun.

@XboxSurgeon Yeah, don't attempt to try and flash like 20353 on XDK E units, I got lucky on my BB Jasper Test Kit, but who knows if an XDK E unit can be saved.

If an ISO Recovery is incompatible, you get a 0x0000001e and the kit is bricked. (For XDK Phats and XDK S units, there is a recovery that can be used to save kits, but on an XDK E, since you're locked to 21256 recoveries, the kit might be screwed without a NAND Dump)

I'd also like to take this information into question. I mean, the 360 E MFR dates go well back into 2013, and that's for retail units. If this were true, that would mean MS was just reusing Corona boards, outfitting them with one less USB on the back and the AV out 3.5mm jack for the E. It would also mean all the known E Stress Kits are Coronas.

Guess I just need to take this apart for more documentation...

Also, while I ask this, does anyone on here know if there was a difference in RAM chips between the 512MB retail and 1GB Slim XDK? As in part number of the RAM. We need to figure out if the E Stress Kits actually have 1GB of RAM.
