Yes, PS2 is outselling xbox 360. Wii is number one, and the Ps3... well need we discuss ps3... If anything shows that this is a price driven market, it's ps2. If microsoft cute 360 to $259.99, it would all be over.
Taking the last multi format released game, Spiderman 3 we can see the following pattern. 1 Xbox 360 289,142 2 PS2 240,618 3 PS3 128,379 4 Wii 61,511 (it's the only non Nintendo Wii game in the top 30...) 5 DS 37,717 I'm not sure if these figures prove anything good or bad. ^_^
I agree they need to cut the price on the 360 if they want to really do some damage. But the problem is they seem to be saving that option for when they are in more desperate need of it I think. They really should have done it as soon as possible though. I mean the Wii looks ALOT LESS practical when it's 250$ and the 360 costs not much more and is far better hardware. But I think M$ is more concerned about keeping ahead of Sony their real competition.
Wii has a mental advantage with parents. It has a FREE game. People like FREE. Xbox 1 only sold well when it had FREE games with it. PS2 sold well when it had grand tourismo, FREE Notice a trend? Fuck, MS can end it all right now if they bundle halo 3 with a premium system.
its no suprise really .. with so many hardware failures of 360 aswell as the new found banning on Live etc, many people are just buying a tried and tested recognised brand... which is availble easily. unlike the Wii .
No matter what happens, Nintendo is still in a great spot. Sure, Microsoft can lower the 360...but something tells me nintendo can afford to lower the price of Wii. Yay for a system with little development cost.
Except both the PS1 and PS2 sold like hotcakes for years without bundled software. The Nintendo DS is too. Market trend/fashion and price are the real tickets. I don't think MS are going to drop the price for a while yet. Not if they want to make it profitable this year (as they are aiming).
I would love for ms to drop the price of the 360 by alot. It would probably hurt ps3/wii by large margins as well. I am pulling out of my ass here but if MS swallowed $100 more on the 360, they could make it hard on everybody. Droping to $250, nintendo can easly go $200 and still keep things about the same. The only way they could realy hit the wii hard is going to $200 on the core. Yet thats just all magical dreaming since the 360 will keep bleeding money for years to come.
This shows that the Wii might sell a ton of units but it doesn't get played. If a consumer has a wii they still go out and buy a Playstation or an Xbox to play all the other non-gimmick games. Wii sales should have no effect whatsoever on the sales of the other consoles. For all purposes just consider it another handheld. Wii is great for wii play and wii sports but it will never catch on as a replacement for fighting, sports, and 3rd person shooters. Great to pull out at the family party but us 30 yr old guys don't want to dance around the apartment everytime we play mortal kombat.
I thought everything was still being outsold by PS2, gosh that shows how much I've been keeping up with this gen
Wii rocks and Im a microsoft junkie saying that As far as the market from a parents perspective if I buy a PS2 You have alot of games to choosefrom and it is inexpensive. PS3 with the economy going the way it is who has the money to spend. 360 is a little better but still alot Wii on the other hand is a moderate cost and I can actualy get a workout to since there are anumber of games that you can not justl sit down to. The only problem with the Wii is finding one. As far as I know it is the only console, including older ones, that has been tough to get this late after a release. Look at the when the elite launched people there were lines but most were there for the shipments of Wiis not the new 360. Says something about the Wii
Um. It shows that Wii owners aren't interested in the Spider-man 3 game. Wii games by Nintendo are hardly flagging in sales...
Wii rocks in some capacity at the moment. The big wave of games is comming soon though - i need not talk about Brawl for example, or Galaxy. Just recall the position of the xbox 360 1 year after launch
I'm really glad the Wii is doing so well. I've had a bunch of idiots say that Nintendo should just go the Sega route and just make games. I usually just pretend like they aren't talking and envision myself slapping them in the face. :icon_bigg
On release stateside, PS1 came with a demo cd with playable games. Ds came with a metroid demo. Ps2 did not sell like hotcakes when it came out. It was too damn expensive , and had crap ass game like the bouncer. Either way, the selling advantage of Super nintendo + SMW and genesis +sonic shows that bundling is the way to go. Ps3 came with a shitty dvd of the worst movie of the year...
Those are games only available on the Wii so they have no choice if they want to play the game. Most of which use the gimmick function to its full ability. Unless you are 8 years old if you own a Wii you ALSO own another system. There are many who own just a PS3 or just a 360 but the numbers of people who own just a Wii aren't there. No matter how well the Wii system sells games released across all platforms will continue to sell better on the other platforms.
I dunno how much weight a demo disk has with a consumer in a system sale. I do agree that PS3 has a pretty shitty pack in as its not even a game but I'd like to hear how the PS2 didn't sell like hotcakes when it was released. At our stores I was buying used PS2s for $300 and selling them for $500 for many months after it was released. Used memory cards we sold for $40. We could keep neither in stock.
In defence of the Wii sales of Spiderman 3, I would say that Wii owners know better than to get licensed games, knowing that most franchise to games conversions are just a forced outline of the movies with no real depth besides basic elements of gameplay Yes, the Wii owner is 1334 indeed. Of course I m kidding, and I m feeling sorry for myself not having an NTSC/US Wii yet, although I have to money for it - can't seem to find a retail store that has stock ><
