As much as I would like to admit that it is a price driven market, it isn't always that. Mixture of things allow a system to do well: mostly efficiency and games. The general idea is this: the PS2 is a established system with many games that is still going to be supported for at least another year. Price comes into effect when you realize how cheaper the last gen is now when compared to when the playstation and N64 died. You can pick up most PS2 games now for $20 (When compared to N64 games still being in the high price range when it died and Playstation games slowly getting sold out), when compared to the high $60 price tag (Which is why I don't buy as many games as I used to). Not to mention the PS2 pretty much is a monopoly in itself with the last gen right now: it has no competition (All the gamecubes and Xboxes are sold out in my area). You can pick up So, I can see where new gamers/casual gamers would spend their money. Not to mention the 360 is in a drought right now (Guitar Hero II is the only major game I can think of recently), compared to God of War II and such. EDIT: Here are some price differences between the consoles --------------------------------------------- In Tennessee, a PS2 cost this much with tax: 141.60 In Tennessee, a Wii cost this much with tax: 272.49 In Tennessee, a 360 with a 20 gig hard drive cost this much with tax: 436.00 In Tennessee, a PS3 with a 60 gig hard drive cost this much with tax: 653.90 ----------------------------------------------------- In the difference between the wii and PS2, you could get almost 6 $20 PS2 games ($131.00 difference including tax on the 20 games), or 2 $50 games and 1 $20 game. In the difference between the 360 and PS2, you could get almost 14 $20 PS2 games ($295.00 difference including tax), or 5 $50 games. You could also pick up a Wii with the difference. In the difference between the PS3 and PS2, you could get almost 23 $20 PS2 games (494.30 difference including tax), or 8 $50 PS2 games. Also, you could almost pick up a 360 Elite system or A wii system with 4 games. You know what is even scarier? This is just for the systems themselves. No games, no extra controlers or Xbox live, and such.
I own a Wii and I'm 31. Don't have any interest what so ever in the PS3 but wouldn't mind a 360 if they didn't keep breaking. I'm happy with my Wii and no I wouldn't buy Spiderman 3 on it or any other console since that's not going to interest me in the slightest (the movie does mind you). Yakumo
It's absolutely shocking that the 360 has gone a year and a half without a price drop....I'm guessing Christmas we will see some movement, but that's just a guess.
So you are saying that you have a Wii and thats ALL you play. You don't play ANY other system right now? I find it hard to believe but if true you are in the minority. Most adult gamers I ran into need more than the gimmick games to feed the gaming hunger. They need some Halo,God of War,Madden or Mortal Kombat none of which work well with the Wii control system. Spiderman 3 is a great example. A game with a little bit of gaming value marketed towards the ignorant public who buy up the hype. This is the target audience. If I am a software company, a platform that can sell the hell out of this crap is the one I want to make games for. Rehash an old game we have all played 1000 times before, get a megablockbuster license for the cover and sell a million copies. Why take a risk coming up with something unique that you can't port over well to the other platforms?
I haven't even unboxed my ps3, I only bought it because it has the hardware ps2 on it. I also have no 360 anymore. So I also, currently, only have wii.
this is a down time for great games that could push console sales. I mean look at the ps3 list. There's not shit until August when Madden comes out. Even that won't really help sell a $600 console when you get the same game each year. Between then and now, the ps3 does get Pirates of the Caribbean movie game and a Tom Clancy game that's been on the 360 since November of 06. The 360 lineup isn't much better for a while besides Forza. People who want a 360 or PS3 probably already have one already. The ones on the fence are either waiting for a price drop, or for a console selling game to come out. Since there is shit coming out until the fall, the console sales are going down.
I own loads of systems but the Wii is the only next gen one because the others are just the same as what I have but with fancier graphics. The graphics on the Wii are good enough for me. I mostly play Saturn followed by Wii these days with PC Engine and Dreamcast a close 3rd. Yakumo
I've got a Wii.....never play it, I think it's boring and gimmicky. PS2 I play for FFX and FFXII, but most of the time, I'm on my Dreamcast.
So not only is Wii not the only console you are playing right now its not even #1. You get your fix for all the "normal control feature" games from your Sega Saturn and others. Don't get me wrong the Wii is a great system for what it is but you can't say that the new control feature works well for all games. Its not the end all be all of this generation. Its a must have but its just a supplement not a replacement. If a new Wii games comes out and used the new controls well you buy it but if it is available on another platform most consumers will buy it for those other platforms instead.
Now that's the sort of comment that doesn't make sense. If you think it's boring and gimmicky then why buy one. Then again if you've never played it how do you know it's boring and gimmicky  Personally I think Sonic and the secret rings was ruined by the Wii controls. It's a fantastic game IF it had the option of standard controls. I got pissed off with it in the end after the 5th area. Monster Trucks on the other hand makes fantastic use of the Wii remote. So good in fact that it feels natural and in no way a burden un like Sonic oh and Dragonball Sparking. Thankfully that gives the option of using the classic controller  Yakumo
Yup Sonic for the Wii really have bad controls,I tried to give the game a shot but I put the game down and rented Super Paper Mario, now thats a really fun game to play.
He said he never plays it, not that its never been played. There is a difference and believe it or not I hear this statement ALOT from my customers. Alot of Wiis are collecting dust until the non-gamer girlfriend comes over or the small get together at the house needs a pick-up.
Well I didn't buy it, it was a gift to my family from my parents. I played it religiously for the first week or so, then it just got boring. I agree 110% on your Secret Rings comment though.
You mean 1337 pal, theres no 1334:katamari: BTW, besides Galaxy and brawl (which I dont like: SSB never looked like a great game to me) which are the other games of this "wave" you're talking about? For what I see the Wii is just the 2nd phase of nintendo's "live and let die" approach to the game market (since they're able to get a profit while sony and MS bleed to death with their new consoles). Right, cuz releasing just 2 games per year would really make nintendo a top notch 3rd partie... Please, with the DS at the top of the market and the Wii selling like an overpriced miracle cure, going out of the hardware bandwagon and jumping into software-only is like suicide for nintendo. Seriously, if I was a stockholder of the company and some smuck came over saying we should switch to software I would shoot that fucker in the face...
There's bound to be a mariokart, F-zero, new Zelda, and tons of new titles. Also, Kingdom Hearts (the wii version), Batallion Wars 2, Metroid Prime 3 and many others that I d have to look at my list. Super Smash Bros:Melee is my favourite multiplayer game, and the sequel is enough a reason to buy a Wii
and I parry it 3rd strike style. anyways I have a 360 Got mine at the end of november. since then I got a DS and........yes a PS2, Never owned a PS anything before besides my beloved PSP.
