i think my point was, was that you dont need complex AI systems. the game of life was my example because it uses emergent complexity. instead of writing for every possibility, you write very simple rules and let the program run itself. i think the problem with characters colapsing in on themselfs has more to do with collision detection than the actual ragdoll effect. and i think incorporating the ragdoll physics in with scripted animations would go a long way to improve things.
For all you haters GTA series, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Metal gear, Street Fighter Anniversary, All the square/enix games, Wipeout, Dragon quest, need for speed, shadow of colossus, suikoden, Those are just ps2 ps1 had a massive vault of amazing games from parappa the rappa, to xenogears, to armored core. I agree that yeah sony did never really have a "Focus" and yeah they offered alot of crap titles, but they also dominated with their other titles. As for the DS outselling ps2 and psp: "Sony announced today that as of October 21st, it has shipped more than 10 million PSPs worldwide. The company noted that the shipment of 10 million units within the 10 months since its launch is the fastest penetration speed ever for the PlayStation platform. Sony said it has sold 4.47 million PSPs in North America, 3 million in Japan and Asia, and 2.53 million in Europe." psp's are amazing they connect to pc, ps2, any wi fi terminal, can put any media on them including emulators, offer the most amazing graphics on a handheld (gta), offer fun games (lumines, namco museum), offer kickass rpgs (tales of eternia, legend of heroes). Also the psp is compatable with location free t.v. making it so you can view your home media (sony 5 disc dvd player) or cable t.v. on your psp anywhere in the world that there is a wi fi terminal (internet cafes, library, school, hotels, buses, your friends house). So When I throw in nintendo DS to the list of shit sony puts under its because psp makes DS look like a commadore. I know nintendo has dominated handhelds up till now but the psp rules. The reason I list innovation on my list of sony disregards is well because sega was completely innovative in alot of their development, the dreamcast had internet capabilities way before anybody else as did the sega saturn, 32 bit graphics, Backlit lcd screens on there handhelds, VMU's, sega was ahead of its time, innovative and creative. While sega CD, 32x, and nomad failed because of their poor timing. Ps1 and 2 destroyed dreamcast and saturn. Nintendo cleaned house with them on handhelds. Sega technically should be fucking shit up right now with their new badass console, but they arent, their eating crow because sony and nintendo had the games, timing, marketing, and distribution to rock out. But for the majority of sony's history they never really pushed innovative hardware besides a short lived pocketstation. The sony eye toy is actually pretty cool if you ever used it. Yeah its gimmicky but so was the fucking voice thing for dreamcast, at least with this you can have fun with sportsgames instead of taking to a stupid fish. Sure gamecube turned out a profit but even nintendo admitted it as a failure to capture the game market even with its exclusive released titles, and thus the Revolution is gonna have to clean house. Which im sure it might do. ANYWAY the point of my post was this: Sony systems have longevity due to their game quality. If I only bought 2 systems in the past ten years psx and ps2 I would be able to play not all but the majority of the best games on the market. Sony still sells titles even when superior technology looms in its face like the xbox has for years which is obviously graphically superior as is the gamecube, so yeah sony rules, nintendo rules too but not as much, and microsoft better start making some better games.
Sony doesn't even make there good games though.... I totally agree with PS1 being one of the best systems. I had a lot of fun with that thing. PSP is an awesome system, but theres nothing to play on it unless you like GTA and maybe driving games; price is a big thing to consider when only a few games appeal to one. When it gets the goods it'll be an even better system. (all IMO)
Psp has legend of heroes and soon to have tales of eternia for rpg's, wipeout pure got great reviews but I have yet to play, namco museum is awesome, twisted metal head on is good if you like twisted metal. Lumines is a great puzzle game. Capcom in addition to sending psp megaman titles is also releasing monster hunter freedom. Check out www.pspworld.com for all the goodies on psp. I havent played the metal gear acid game or the grand theft auto, but I hear gta is a feat to behold. I know the prices of psp are much but the ability of psp to do what it does at the size that it is is the most impressive thing I have ever seen from a mass released computer product. Plus it connects to xbox 360 via usb, and based on the ps3 hardware specs that have been released the it also connects to ps3 wirelessly for infrastructure play. I know for the average consumer all these games/ movies and the console itself seem high in price, but when you consider gamesharing capabilities and the ability to downgrade to version 1.50 and use emulators even people with a low budget are capable of a somewhat large game library at a cost of the system alone. And since im smarter than the average consumer (and happen to work for a distribution company) I can afford all the goodies and games for psp at 20% reduced cost. I also have a nintendo DS (had to for castlevania) and dont care for the 2 screen setup, its cool for some things, but for shit like the pinball game its just akward with too big of a gap between the screens to be effectual.
Come on, lets stop the bickering and / or acting Fanboyish, here.. Almost all systems have their share of good or bad titles. I own all three current gen systems and I enjoy each in their own way. Sometimes I want to kill some Rebels on Star Wars battlefront II for Xbox, Slice some Moblins in the Wind Waker on GC, or do battle with lightning fast mechs in ZOE II on Ps2. Every system has something to offer, and I like all three of them. Oh, and I can never have enough Fire Emblem goodness on my GBA!
So hilarious. It's funny that the PS2 has all these "amazing" games and yet I only have 3 games for the system, while I have near 30 for the XBOX. Hmm... It's a matter of preference, my fiend, and we can argue until we're both blue in the face, but that won’t change our opinions. Sony is shit and the Playstation is shit. For me, that's the end of the story. For you, it's an enraging statement because you harbor enough "love" for this silly brand name that you can type a page long reply to an anonymous person as to why you think (there is little to no fact in your post. It's all opinions and preconceived notions that everyone should like the same stuff you do) it's so amazing. Step back, and think about that for a minute...
well, reguardless if sony makes good games or not, they are in big trouble. it should be interesting to see what sony does with the psp and the playstation 3, cause unless they can turn the psp into an ipod killer they are screwed...when was the last time you saw someone with a walkman? sony used to do everything and do everything well, i cant say the samething for them anymore.
This is the first console I haven't bought at launch since the SNES way back when. I have the money, so that's not the issue, I just don't have the desire.
I think microsoft is seriously screwing up. I can see selling out, but sending 14 units per store is practically an insult. Add in the fact that most store managers are having pals come in and buy up the units so they can put them on ebay.
Target told my wife this morning that they only received 2 units. They may have only sold two to the public, but I know damn well that they received more than two.
I had read somewhere that Microsoft was threating to file lawsuits against any store employees who were caught holding Xbox 360's. I don't know if this was just rumor or not.
As much as I would have loved to see that happen, there are no grounds for Microsoft to sue individual employees. They could potentially sue the stores for a breach of contract, or the stores themselves could sue the employees for theft though.
I guess cause Im a big rpg fan I have alot of respect for sony and nintendo. If you played games like the final fantasy series, xenogears, breath of fire, saga frontier, Legend of Dragoon, Valkyrie profile, suikoden, legend of mana, lunar: the silver story. Same with nintendo having offered some of the best rpgs especially zelda. Sega had shinning force, Dragon warrior, Albert Odessey, Magic Knight rayearth. I know its a matter of opinions, but I just wish microsoft would put out some good rpgs. And its not love for the brand, its love for the systems that put out these titles.
I happen to work for a distribution company and we ship out alot of xbox 360's, most of them go to NYC, and sony has been doing a city based ad campaign using graffiti to push the psp. It seems like both are targeting major cities for consumer bases. Also theres no laws against employees buying the systems. I could easily know exactly when a 360 will hit a store anywhere in my area as could anyone who works in a DC. So if someone says they only recieved 2 what they probly meant was they only had 2 left over after everyone who worked for that company who wanted one got one.... at 10-20% less than an average consumer would pay.
Hey, Claysion, as a word of advice, double posting is frowned upon. You can fix it by editing your first post to contain the second posts words, and then deleting the extra post.
I did not know that, but will keep that in mind. I figured I would separate them because of the different content.
