Some pics of the xbox 360 proto pads... These were shiped with the second revision of the PowerMacG5-Xenon kits, which amonst other things, had a board for the wireless stuff installed. ourcolony.net shows little preview pics of the pad too... so perhaps they have kept the design for launch, just changed the analog stick/d-pad to white... :0)
I don't own an Xbox but from what I've seen these new pads look almost the same except for being in white. Yakumo
Well, after hearing a scary rumour about the Xbox360/Xenon/whatever pads being changed to be more similar to a Dual Schock, with central analogue sticks and shoulder buttons instead of triggers, I find these pictures to be somewhat of a relief... I just hope that it remains in an S-Pad style design I know things working as they should is generally a new concept to Microsoft, but "if it isn't broken... DONT FIX IT"
re: the black/white buttons MS told developers a while ago that the white/black buttons would be exchanged for triggers. You can see there are 2 triggers in the front, playstation style, and 2 in the back, xbox style. edit: from an faq:
For one second, I thought the little spherical part in the middle was some sort of trackball. That would be Über-cool. You know, for 5200 emulation of Missile Command, or Centipede or something. I actually like the colour scheme, though. They look _modern_ and stuff.
I think it looks like a cheap third-party logitech-like wireless controller too. I liked the six buttons on the xbox, though i didn't liked were they where positioned. It would have been nice if they decided to make it like a six-button genesis pad, or a saturn one. Speaking of the saturn, it looks a bit like the two controller versions of it (the original one and the fatty one), don't you think too? Anyway, i don't see myself buying tons and tons of batteries to play, and i don't imagine the lifetime of those with the rumble function, i doubt they removed it.
I like the new shoulder buttons, but they should of kept the old DUKE 6-button layout, but slightly modified to ressemble a Saturn controller. Buying rechargeable batteries would help keep it powered on the cheap I imagine.
Ugh, looks too damn plastic and cheap to be any good. Hope thats just a vague example controler of what it may look like...
