I think more people are excited and interested in the newer stuff anyway, so this shouldn't affect sales like everyone's predicting.

Discussion about backwards compatibility makes no sense.
Telling that only some games will be playbable means (in PR words) that you won't be able to play a single Xbox 1 game on Xbox 360.
It means more of a "we will give you an enhanced version of Halo 2 for Xbox 360 for a low budget price. This should be enough and customers should spend their money on new software".

But i don't know why people are bashing the Xbox 360. Microsoft had the best show on E3 and you saw actual beta versions on alpha Hardware. Compared to Sony (which only showed pre-rendered "not the game" shit) we could actually see what we'll get in a few months.
Nintendo didn't show anything new. Zelda trailer (like every year), online plans (like every year), Nintendogs (the jap. version is already for sale) and a little plastic box named Revolution with no games announced at the moment (and possibly in future).

Heh, so you won't be able to transfer data from Xbox to Xbox 360 right? Rip-off...

Then they say once we got halo 1 and 2 to work many more games will work...

It almost sounds like they are going to sell some kind of emulator that will get updated and so on. Then look at this interview...

    "Live gives us another asset
to go after this, of course-we have a strong Live base, but it's still only
a few million people at this stage, it's not all of our installed base, so
we can't count on it as the only mechanism to try to get the strongest
    backward compatibility possible."

So sounds like there will be some kind of downloads....

It will not help sales. With true backwards compatibility you have a large game selection to begin with. Without it you are limited. From a marketing perspectve backwards compatibility sure helps.

From what I had read it said you needed the hard drive to be able to play the older games so I would have thought it had a emulator of some kind to compesate for teh hardware dfferences. we will see.

Agree, but am i the only one that do not see any '' cool new feature'' on the xbox 360?
there's neither on the ps3, though it have retro compatibility. Nintendo, on the other hand, seems to have a ''cool new feature'' AND full retro compatibility. :happyhap:

microsoft seems to be the big looser if you count.

I have a feeling this a way for microsoft to FORCE people to get online and download plug-ins to make a particular game work (nickel and diming them along the way. Also who says that the current xbox will work on the new online network. I'll bet after a year they will stop allowing poeple to use the old xbox with the new online service, then they will be pushed into getting the 360. So if they want to play online with thier old games they will need to get a 360 and pay for the downloaded compatibility plug-in. I'll bet evey game can and does work on the 360, its just that microsoft has announced that customers will have to PAY for that feature one game at a time, without directly saying it. So in essense they haven't promised anything, but have the ability to surprise everyone later. Microsoft is going to turn video games into an "iTUNES" like service and man do I hate it.

    1-name one. Online?

2-still waiting for it too, just hope nintendo wasn't lying. it could be.

3-yeah, but from my little problem (wich is : -cool new feature +retrocompatibility for ps3, +cool new feature (needs to be confirmed, but i doubt they won't do anything unforseen) ++retrocompatibility for the Revo. and -cool new feature -retrocompatibility for micro.), they're loosing, as for the war, that wasn't the point.

A very very updated live system. Video chat all these new things in live.
Then there wifi, removable harddrive, connectivity with alot of stuff, media centre, the removable cover is going to make it much more interesting for console modders. Microsoft
have gone out there and developed alot of new things for this console instead of relying on backwards compatability which isnt something new.

So nintendo havent got anything at all... they might have but u dont know... abit early to be saying its got more over the 360 isnt it.

So bringing something back and old is now seen as this great new feature... Apart from gamecube nintendo is just adding stuff i can do on a modded xbox or a shitty old pc i got in 1996. Its nothing great or hard to do...

Paulo please, you're tottally missing the point of the disusion and point ground zero bringed and the things i've answered. And i see nothing new in what you said, i can do all this on my pc, already. that's just on another platform now, and maybe easier to do.

Besides the enhanced xbox live, there's no real new features. I could care less about showing pictures from my camera on a tv with 360, buying songs online from microsoft on 360, paying for all of the updates to games that used to be free (levels, quests).

So please tell whats new about nintendo emulating everything and whats new on the PS3 console?

You seem to be holding something against the xbox but not holding the same things against the PS3 or revolution.

All I really want are games in 720p and higher, and it looks like all the next systems will do that. That's really all I care about. Playing FPS's online don't do much for me for too long, so all that Live crap really doesn't do much for me, although it is cool they went out of their way to do it. I do think they will nickel and dime as much as they can along the way though.
