so as a newbie here and now with a few nice xboxes to my collection has anyone ever had a case made up to store and display there xboxes or are they wrapped up and hidden in some drawer or cupboard somewhere out of sight... i really want mine on show but also would be nice not to have them attract dust and crap...... suggestions or pics maybe
There are enough stories about Detolfs breaking despite being under load by a few pounds. The Xbox is about 8 pounds without any controllers or anything else on the shelf, and the detolf can hold 13. That is why I didnt buy them. I've actually been trying to find nice cases for Xbox consoles, but no luck so far.
I hopped on IKEA's site once I read this, for only $65- it's worth a try, I'd like to find this display case tho.. http://xfusion2010.blogspot.com/2012/04/xbox-launch-team-special-edition.html
I fear hearing one of the Detolf shelves cracking, then bringing the rest down with it. I can just picture it in my head. Really, that sort of case would be relatively easy to make. I remember doing similar things in technology class in middle school. Right now Im working on finding smaller cases for controllers and the like, have had some success
Well start making cases that would hold 2 controllers above the console like one pictured and I'd buy like 10..
Buy a detolf. And replace the glass shelves with wooden shelves. i have thousands of £ of statues in 4 of these some huge and solid resin , never had a problem yet.
I haven't seen the IKEA DETOLF in person yet, but I believe it should work to buy one, then strengthen the corners and the horizontal glas by using Makrolon plastic. I use Makrolon in my pinball machine and it can bend a little, but it's rather light. So if you put a layer of Makrolon accross or below the DETOLF glass that should probably support it enough for about 20 Euro. Also I'm not sure wether a glass floor is even that good. Personally I think the Xbox bottom is not that nice. I'd probably just get another cheap display cabinet and replace the horizontal plates with a metal plate with holes in it. Dust should fall through, you can install lamps on the bottom and it will be rock solid.
One of the problems isn't just the glass, but how it is attached to the sides (to the frame). For some people, most even, they are great, as Commander is saying, I just know with my luck I would be one of those cases where they break. I would rather see people buying something like a bookshelf, and putting glass doors on the front if you have dust problems.
Cases would be awesome to put them but for someone like me I don't have enough room at all to display individual consoles in cases. Even if I had good shelving or not. Right now I am using a work table. lol
They also do a unit called the BESTA which can be modified in various ways. can be bought in gloss white and gloss black. and glass doors can also be added. these are basically a solid wooden cube with an open front. if you own your house , you could cut holes in the walls the size you need put lights in them and then seal the front with glass , would look amazing.
If you guys could give me more pictures of stands you would like, I could contact the acrylic manufacturer that is very close to my work. I'm sure they could make some for us as long as it was a batch order.
There's little standoffs you can buy which go under the sides of the shelf, so it buckle or snap. I always ask about shelf weight when looking for cabinets, funny thing is. They all say "I'm not sure". I just don't want to risk the collection which I have spent ages gathering up. One of my cousins were telling me about the stand offs I'll have to ask what they are actually called.
heck yeah..one like this with two controller hangers and a hole in the back for a light. ask how much quantity is needed to purchase in bulk.
