working on a trade with someone and they have this controller does it seem legit, it looks good to me, just never saw this color maybe a prototype or something?
Has markings near the bottom which is unusual for a bootleg (if it is) Need much better photos than this. Then again, if it was a prototype, it wouldn't have final production stickers on it. Does this controller have a breakaway, or is it all one solid cable?
here are more pics it looks exactly like my blue and clear controllers it has a breakaway too, just doesn't say Microsoft on it
Well.. It could easily just be a bootleg controller.. Some had breakways some didn't. The lighter blue is off putting, closer photos needed around the memory unit slot. It should have a recycling logo around there with some others. Turn it around in light and it's visible. If not, then I'd say it's a bootleg.
Also ask a close up of the part no. too. This should also give away if it's using an existing controller part number.
Looks to be the one from eBay last month, not Microsoft and I don't even think its a Rainbow S just by the molds and color. In the pictures Hexigon supplied, on the back above the recycle logo is a date circle, fakes won't have this. The same date logo can be found behind the serial number sticker and on the front behind the Xbox jewel. Stickers and internals don't matter because most of these were sold as shell replacements. Edit: Still a cool controller to have if you collect for original Xbox. Even fakes (Xtreme Technology) Rainbow S controllers had the recycle logo. But no date circles, all other markings identical to legit controllers except motor mounts and dates. http://imgur.com/a/DgpyL ( Thanks to @ToxicMedz )
here is the sticker close up they said no symbols on back like above 100% looks like that ebay one, even the jewel has a weird dent on the bottom like this one.
It would be weird of it wasnt there. The dents help with placement and alignment during the manufacturing process.
In all honesty after checking the eBay link Syclopse shared, there's no breakaway. This is nothing more than a bootleg.
Again, most were sold as replacement controller shells, so having a Microsoft PCB or cable means nothing for verification as the end user would use their PCB and cable from the official black controller to install the controller shell.
Sticker doesn't look picked at either, I don't think it's cheap housing - It's probably just a cheap bootleg, later fakes didn't have breakaways.
Look at the ferrite and see if it's got Microsoft on it. Also, chinaclones won't have the two dissimilar sized weights on the vibration motors, instead they will be exactly the same weight / motor. http://web.archive.org/web/20061101053301/http://secure.llamma.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=64_24 They made a bunch of colors.
