Hello, does anyone have a guide on to hook up the Xbox to a Linux PC? I want to make my own testing crap and I was wondering if there is a cable I would need. And also, since my DVT-4 has been opened (but works ) could you use any IDE harddrive in there w/out the stupid locking/unlocking the drive? Thanks, DownDuckling
Most DVT4s are not locked, so harddrive upgrades should be fine, but the Xbox wont natively use the extra space. I dont believe there are any drivers for the DVD emulator in Linux, so you will be out of luck, same for Ethernet. If you just want to play the games, install FTP software onto it and off you go.
I'd probably do it on regular debug kit... Easier to take apart, and what not. I think there is a patch like the one you gave me Borman with the retail xbe support... That allows larger drives.
Heard/read about that 137 gb limit aswell. But one can wrap the windows drivers under linux if you want, but then you need to run the DVD emu software under Wine or something. To do what? DVD emulation? I think its easier to just get Windows XP on that thing (legaly? buy a secondhand pc with a license). If you want to do just dev stuff you dont need dvd emulation, the dvt4 runs just fine without.
http://www.jungo.com/st/linux.html meh... but some programming need to be done.. btw, I never tried running linux on a pc where the pci card was installed.
I was never able to get Xbox Neighborhood to work using Crossover Mac, which I imagine is similar (and more basic in many ways).
How would I go and swap the harddrive? Is there an ISO I need to download to install a new OS on the HDD?
