Hi all, I have an untouched green XBOX Live Beta Debug machine. Since it is NTSC and I'm in Spain and it doesn't play beta discs I have never used it. Does someone know if it will play the XBOX LIVE BETA STARTER KIT disc v. 1.0? Or perhaps it plays regular NTSC discs? Thanks in advance, Jose.
If it's the same disc i'm thinking of, yes it should. But i don't think you'll actually be able to connect to live with it. On a completely unrelated note, if you ever want to sell your Live beta, let me know... I sorta need one... I have this strange plan involving the beta live version of mech assault and a custom hacked save file to let me dump the eprom without cracking the case. I sorta have a live beta that needs to be repaired... EDIT: On second thought, i'm not sure we're talking about the same disc. If you're talking about the one for the open public beta, then that won't work on BETA Live Debug (worst name ever, by the way). Here's a pic of the disc from the public beta, again this one won't work. I'll try to dig up the one that will, i stored it away until i could get my hands on a second Live Debug.
The Beta Live Debug will only play specific Beta Live discs. It will not play retail discs. It will not play standard debug discs. It's a very specific machine with a very specific purpose. -hl718
I don't really have the disc, I'm planning to get one from someone of the forum. He has told me that it runs on a regular XBOX and that comes with a REVOLT demo. About your needs, I'll be very pleased if I can help you. So, tell me what to do and I'll try to make it.
Yeah, he's talking about the disc i took the pics of, it won't work. Basicly the Live BETAs run off of a custom signature. It's neither a debug signature nor a retail. I've been told its closer to retail than anything. There are about a dozen games that will run on your box, and about 20 copies of each out there. Less survive, as the BETA live program was dismantled, so were the consoles (cough... it would have been wrong of me to swap out a live beta for a halo system. Especally if i had swapped the serial number sticker off of the motherboard...). I'm really hoping that they used the same hard drive lock for all of the systems, i'm just not sure. I don't think anyone has tried to hack one before. In theroy i could take a save from Mech Assult (or however they spelled it), apply the hack from the retail exploit an use that to dump the eprom. I'm only missing 2 things to try this plan, a working Live Beta and the Mech Assault disc... :banghead: EDIT: Unless some kind soul out there happens to know the signature code for the Xbox BETA live program?
Hi ProgrammingAce, My other reply was for you. I haven't read the hl718 post. I insist, if I can help you when you get the MechAssault disc just let me know.
make sure that Mech Assult is not the greatest hits print. I used to have one but I got rid of it a while back. Try gamefly Ace. You can still find the older versions of PSO for Gamecube for the streaming hack there last I heard.
lol, i would need the beta live signed version, i don't think gamefly would have that... That's even if the beta live version was able to save. Those live beta games are infamous for just being online only... some were, some wern't. I don't remember any more which was which.
Actually the disc I have is slightly different than what you pictured. There's a "Microsoft/Revolt/Acclaim" logo on the right side, an "E rating" on the left side and the text "Beta Starter Kit Disc v. 1.0" on the bottom. The Revolt demo will boot up on my retail Xbox console, but you can't actually play it as it looks to connect to the Beta Live servers. There's not much else that can be done with these discs as much of their functionality was tied to the Beta Live service that's been long done away with.
I had one of these units with a few discs awhile back. I'm going off memory on this stuff, as I stupidly didn't save any of the pictures or info I had. I had these discs: Xbox Beta Live Whacked! Capcom vs Snk NBA 2003 Fever Revolt Unreal Mechassault When I obtained the unit, it had saves for most of those on the hard drive, and one or two others (I think Ghost Recon was one). I distinctly remember Revolt being playable offline, and I think I played CVS and Mechassault as well. I believe Mechassault had an option for Debug Mode, but I'm not 100% on that. The games weren't too interesting to me, so I don't even think I fired up the rest outside of making sure they booted up. If you put a retail game in it, you'd get a message asking for the DVD kit. You should wait for oldengineer though because he's the expert on this, and I'm just going off my memory of what I did a year ago and it may not be totally accurate.
@The Dreaming Eye Your old box is the one i'd like to get a hold of, since i know it's already been opened *cough*. At least then i could just do a hard drive swap into mine and see of they used the same hd unlock codes for the whole lot. Plus last time i heard the current owner still had the Mech Assault disc. Even if they didn't it would be easier to work with one that has already been opened. So far, OE has the only PAL unit i've ever heard of, and i've personally witnessed 2 NTSC units being destroyed (not including my own). If i haven't mentioned, my unit was partally destroyed, and it crashed the hard drive. The motherboard seems fully functional. Worst case scenario, i dump the eprom off of one live debug using mech assault and flash my dead unit using a 29 wire modchip. That way i'll have the hard drive lock code, and can clone a new hard drive for it.
That unit was opened? That's news to me, although it's on at least its second owner since I've had it. It certainly wasn't opened when I had it. Three of those discs I mentioned above I sold to oldengineer. Problem is, they won't run on a PAL unit and neither of us thought of that at the time. He was trying to sell them awhile ago, so if you need any of those I would check with him. I think he got CVS, NBA, and Fever, but I'm not sure on that.
Yeah, this was your unit here: http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=85024&postcount=31 And if OE still has those discs, i might try to get 'em. The only disc i have for mine is the Live BETA disc. Although it doesn't matter until i get a second unit anyway.
Whoa, I even posted in that thread and didn't remember that. Pretty sad. The funny thing is I had that system up for sale for a couple of months before I traded it to someone else, who then traded/sold it to 98PaceCar a couple of months later. It's kind of weird how the demand went up for it, because I had a hell of a time getting rid of it.
Go here: http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5851 Or here... http://assemblergames.com/wiki/dogatemysnes/pmwiki.php?n=Topics.MICROSOFTXbox-BETALiveDebugKit "Will play the XBOX LIVE BETA STARTER KIT disc v. 1.0?" = No "Perhaps it plays regular NTSC discs?" = No ...It will ONLY play Beta LIVE! signed games specific to the region of the console, thats all you have to remember.
What about replacing the onboard chip with a bios chip that has a real debug bios flashed on it.I wonder if that would work to turn it back to a genuine debug kit.
Thanks all for your help. Does someone have any game for this machine that would like to get off of it?
Possible, but i'd hate to ruin such a rare devkit. I don't think there are more than 8 of them out there any more. Actually, if my plan works, i could turn a regular debug into a Live Debug (which, yes, would be pointless).
Not true on either count. They didn't, they are locked as per Retail. Not true I tried this years ago. In "theory" yes, in practice no. ;-)
