Hi everyone, I'm new here^^ I found this Forum with Google, when I tried to get informations about my Powerbutton problem. I bought a old Xbox console through ebay. It is working, but with a small issue. I can't turn the console off the power butten doesn't work I took my multimeter and did some measures on the Xbox Motherboard. The button seems to be working. So i measured the resistance of the Button on the connector on the Motherboard. The resistance changes from Endelss to zero. So the Button is working. I have already tested if it is possible to turn the console on, when it has turned off after 6 hours (Energy saving features), doesn't work, either. Are there any known issues with the power button? I didn't have time to take a closer look at the Motherboard, but i will do this, when I have time. Thanks^^ Nouda
It probably isn't the power button. It is likely that there are leaking capacitors somewhere on the motherboard. The other thing to look at is the power supply itself.
Trace rot on the big long trace from the front of the console on the bottom of the board usually causes the boot up when power applied won't turn off fault. Usually patch up with a long wire from the sm component at the front to the leg of a certain ic that's towards on the bottom Either that or take board out and patch up on the underside. Google images has picture of the points you need to join up they are different for pre 1.2 and post 1.2
An increasingly common problem I had with my debug Xbox. You'll likely need to bypass the bad traces with a long enough wire (that's if you have the right soldering skills), or you can find someone to repair it for you. Fortunately for me, my city is one of the gaming capitals of the world, and used game shops often have repair experts. Shogun.
They're more common on 1.0/1.1 but I guess other revision can be affected too. Anyway, here's something to get you started: http://fillwithcoolblogname.blogspot.ca/2011/02/1st-gen-xbox-trace-corrosion-repair.html
Just another thing to look at it if the traces are OK, I had this issue on one and replacing the power button board from another xbox resolved it.
Here is the best tutorial I know to fix this trace issue. http://www.theisozone.com/tutorials/xbox/hardware-and-modding/trace-corrosion-repair/
