It seems to me, with microsoft bungling the launch and people having given up and spent money on psps and similar, that sony is awfully quiet.

They could have ads with footage (canned of course)
and some beautiful woman telling all the good boys to save those pennies
for ps3 since launch is so "close".

Yes sony is quiet, and it makes me wonder if they won't have a launch for some months past the spring release predicted. Perhaps as late as fall.

    Thoughts?

i keep thinking that as well.it certainly doesnt remind me of how much sony seemed to wave the ps2 around to scare away people from buying dreamcasts.

i feel its got to do with the new guy they got, he seems pretty relaxed and

confident compared to reggie and moore and allard who seem to often try to

promote their company agressively no matter how bad they are doing, but i belive

their focus atm is getting stuff that doesnt sell to sell(such as their consumer

electronics). I got a feeling their a bit over confident on their ps3 launch as well as

a little iffy, and knowing sony when their nervous, they do not like to show it. How

else can you explain that they dont even bother to report psp units actually sold

to customers. Granted they got a slight boost in japan due to the ds being short

in supply over there, but it will be short lived. I find it funny that capcom is putting

so much support on psp when ds is the clear seller. Of course all their releasing

on it is ports or remakes. Its a bit of a shame that they weretn able to get a ton

of 360's out the door, this is the best time to get an installed base. And of course

theres the issue with blue rays cost, since the one of the players anounced was

around the 1000 range, which means that the ps3 could cost a bit more then

expected. However now that i think about it, how many people are really going to

have an hd tv to support it from the start, and if the price is around 400-600 then

its probably going to be a cheap ass blue ray player. Well by e3 will see

everyones cards. I say the biggest people who shoudl be worying is microsoft.

I think next holiday season .

For marketing reasons this makes the most snse .

Only Nintendo releases consoles whenever they feel like it .

Judging by the rate at which Sony are releasing library patches and DevKits I'd say in around 2 years time :p

The reason that Sony isn't taking the 360 launch fiasco and playing up on it is because they already plan to have a launch fiasco of their own. However, instead of not supplying enough PS3's (there will still be shortages, but nothing like the 360), they will have problems with faulty Cell processors. The systems will be usable, but most will have at least a portion of the processing power diminished due to bad cores. [/Crystal Ball]

    Well, according to Wikipedia (*ahem*)

Specifically, Sony representatives have informed video game store clerks to expect a North American shipment in Summer 2006, more narrowly defined as "somewhere between June and September."

I'm still holding out for a Japanese launch before then, but it's looking increasingly less likely.

How far apart were US/JP PS1 and PS2 releases? 6 months? 9? No date on the Japanese release yet homies. I somehow think they'll be fighting to get it out by Fall, so they can build up a library for Santa Claus to deliver.

August ish in Japan, November ish US, sometime in 2020 for Europe are my best predictions

If MS are having Yield problems with the xenon, then expect 2x that with the cell. What size process are they both? 90 or 65nm? I wouldn't be too surprised if sony miss xmas 06 and end up with march like the PSP

Not sure about the cell, but current 360s use 90nm chips in them. The system was supposed to launch with 65nm ones, but IBM wasn't able to get the fabrication process down in time, so until they do all 360s are going to be equiped with the inferior 90nm ones.

Sony really wants the system out in spring, Im sure sony will have it out there in Japan by spring and or late spring. Late fall for a noth america launch.
But keep in mind word of mouth is the best advertisement, who knows maybe sony is keeping hush for a reason.

If Sony is releasing alpha kits, then they already have the retail process going. But still, its not like sony to stay quiet and not hype the shit out of its system...

Um, that's the problem. They don't have the retail process going... Sony hasn't contacted anyone from my company in regards to the exclusive liscensing agreements that we have in place. Initial testing hasn't begun yet. I knew the 360 launch date within 2 weeks for about 8 months before launch, i don't even have the initial planning stages scheduled for the PS3... If they're going to launch in the spring, they're going to have to pull the discs out of their ass...
