First off, yes, I'm an idiot. Read on to find out how much of an idiot I am

I bought an Xbox, crystal edition, 250GB HDD + mod chipped, running some dash (not 100% sure) but it wasn't MS and it for sure wasn't XBMC. I wanted to install XBMC, so I FTP'ed the files to a folder (games) and booted it from the dash.
I figured out that it wasn't going to autoboot unless I got rid of the previous dash, so I deleted it. The whole thing. AND- I forgot to copy the XBMC .xbe file over to drive C, so now the thing is lost in limbo with no dash, and no way to boot.

OK, not too bad, just use XboxHDM, right? My only PC has ONE IDE PORT. I need two, one for the DVD drive and one for the Xbox HDD. I can't seem to get the Xbox HDD to properly connect and be recognized by any FATX explorers either.
On top of that, I can't seem to properly burn my lniux.iso to a USB drive to avoid using a disk drive (and boot from USB), so that too is out of the question.

Xbox boots and runs, but shows an error screen (of course)

    AAAAARRRRGGG!!!!

So, here's where maybe someone can help me out. I need to find a way to boot the Xbox into XBMC without having it on the HDD. Is there a way to live boot XBMC4Xbox from a disk perhaps? Or is there yet another way to save my Xbox *easily*?
I recall hearing about a live boot for Xbox, or some way to re-format the HDD (as if I was installing a new HDD) that worked with mod chipped Xbox's. If you happen to know this, do let me know!

Just boot a dashboard from the DVD drive, it should load if it is named default.xbe. From there, FTP over whatever file you forgot, and voila, fixed.

I mean... you could use a rescue disk...
It's nearly impossible to brick a chipped xbox1.

I will try booting from a DVD. I didn't know it could boot to a dash from DVD. Whelp.

    It's for sure not bricked.

EDIT- No dice. Doesn't want to boot from CD, and it's burned properly AFAIK. The default.xbe file is on the root of the CD, not in any folders.

Have you verified in any way that it boots anything from DVDs? Worst case scenario, burn one of the Slayers Autoinstaller disks. That should have FTP access too. If nothing boots, it could be an issue with the DVD drive (which isn't unheard of, for DVD-rs), or the DVD media itself.

I will try a boot disk. I already am downloading some random one but I'll try that. Not sure if it can boot dvd, but keep in mind I'm using a cd for my boot media.

    Well lets start off...

-What error do you have? 21?
-It appears you have a soft mod, is this correct?
-Are you cold-booting you disk? (putting the disk in, power off...then powering back on?)
-Can you hear the DVD drive laser pulsing and spinning at different speeds? Or does it sound like its loading?
-What and where did you specifically delete? You may have deleted critical files like the hacked fonts which were installed with the softmod autoinstaller...If this is the case you have no access to the hacked BIOS and won't be able to run a unsigned disk.
-Any chance you know which softmod installer package was used? IF you do indeed have a softmod...

As an alternative to the other proposed fixes, your best bet is to cold boot using your Splintercell, Mechassult, or 007 game disk. Your DVD drive should be able to still read a game disk :encouragement: If not, you have bigger problems!

Doing this would allow you to load the hacked game save (granted you didn't delete that). This will load you back into UnleashX or EvoX. From here you can eject the game disk and use the unsigned disk with slayers rescue disk; even if your fonts got deleted since the exploit / game save utilizes a separate BFM bios location that would be located in the gamesave file.

Hell even AID (which is horrible) will repair it... Also make sure the modchip isn't switched off.

Touche... It's quite possibly the worst auto installer ever. My Xbox got bricked simply because it was unplugged for a few hours and ran into some kind of strange clock loop, which didn't allow it to boot to any dash. Never again...

    In addition to Bad_Ad,

    -cold boot and ?hot?-boot
    -yes
    -Bad_Ad's post...
    -hardmodded.

And, it was hard modded. So, I'm sure the boot disk will work, and if I stay up late enough tonight I'll try it out.

Still, nothing. Tried booting from a CD-R, on two different DVD drives, and then tried a TDK DVD-R (compatible with the Samsung drives) burned at 2X. It sounds like it's trying, but as soon as it hits my error screen, it drops down to idle speed. Is there something I have to do to boot from disc other than put it in the drive an restart the system?
    I'm getting error 09.

This is true. I have an old AID disc sitting around to fix my xbox whenever I fuck it up.

Gotta hate how the clock requires the original dash ><

    Ah- got it!

    Here's how it went down

I planned on trying something different with my PC- putting the DVD as a slave so that the HDD could be on the same IDE cable but still be a master drive. As I got turned on the Xbox- I realized that the front LED wasn't flashing as it normally would- it stayed solid green. I got excited and brought it to the nearest TV, and whaddya know, it's finally decided to try and boot from a disk. AID worked perfectly, and I've got XBMC up and running once again.

Thanks for the help guys and gals!

Told you so, AID is a horrible yet good recovery DVD... Something I doubt I'd ever make sense of lol

Anything that boots into evox is a good recovery disc - as you can just ftp a full dump of the hdd back if you like. (or just what ever you deleted)
