fair enough. I have many friends thank you very much :ayashi I hate sports games and that's that ! They don't interest me at all. If I'm playing games with my friend (which isn't that often because they're not really in to them) we play fighting games or those stupid board game things since my japanese friend like crap like that or we play Puyo Puyo if the friends are female. Yakumo PS: I don't count racing games as sport games. I will play a game of football (Soccer) on the console every now and then if the others want to play but never baseball, basket ball, ice hockey, American football or wrestling games bar Ringside Angle or Muscle Bomber.
That's right Sabre, you hardcore for not liking pop-games. You're smarter and more intellectual than the common gamer because he simply goes out and buys yearly updates regardless of quality. Perhaps you should go and play your NES if you are no longer concerned with graphics, because that's about the only thing new systems can truly offer; and has been for some time. I am also sure that Yakumo is more than intelligent enough to realise my statement was ironic. He's pretty much the life blood of this forum and has a great deal of respect. I'm also guessing that the reason he doesn't like many sports games is because he played one of those awful Soccer games on the Dreamcast and it sickened him for life ;-)
Brrrrr, the dreamcast does seem to be the worlds worst console for soccer games - All i have played so far (i believe all except sega worldwide soccer) are absolutely appalling...
I'm not sure where that came from... or if it needed to be aired at all. I'd also go out on a limb and say that sabre's complaint - like that of myself and many others - was infact that graphics are consistently being pushed over the gameplay experience, rather than that he dislikes graphics. I'm sure there are plenty of others here that would like more than the latest antialiasing, z-buffering, and alpha channels. Regardless, I dislike sports titles because frankly, they're boring. It's not remotely exciting to me to engage in a computer recreation of a real life event that I could partake in for real with a few phone calls to friends. I have liked a few titles - Ice Hockey on the NES, World Cup Soccer/Kunio Kun's Soccer (the River City Ransom soccer game), and Tennis 2k2, but those are really all. With all that videogames are capable of, with all the fantastical worlds for gamers to explore, and the exotic alter egos that players can assume, rehashing last week's Monday Night Football seems entirely pedestrian and unimaginative, to say the least. I think what could be a disturbing indicator of the state of gaming - even moreso than the rampant popularity of titles like Madden - is that people, even on this board, are being chided for disliking the sports genre - an entirely valid dislike, in my opinion, just as we have people who don't like fighters or shooters, or puzzle games. And as Yakumo mentioned, it is entirely possible to game with friends without resorting to sports titles. Super Smash Bros. Melee, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Goldeneye, Gunstar Heroes, and Gauntlet Legends are just a few of the non-sports titles we commonly play at get-togethers.
I'm not really a fan of sports games either, but I wouldn't go as far as dismissing the whole genre of sports games. A bit of ISS or PES can be a good larf with friends - not like I'm any good at them, though. I usually just try and see how many red cards I can get ^_^ And I do enjoy the occasional Gekitotsu Pennant Race 2 (a Konami baseball game on the MSX2), even if I suck at that too. And I've never played baseball in my life! And Yakumo, what about Virtua Tennis? Surely you like that - it's on the DC! :smt023
Thank you for saving me the time, GSL - adeptly and eloquently put, as always. Back to the topic at hand, if those were screenshots I'd be impressed, but renders are just a waste of time.
I *so* envy you now :ayashi No... the CD-i is. But then, name me a genre for which the Cd-i is NOT the worst system.
Hmm, good point, while it lacks a lot of the relatively-not-very-much-vomit-inducing games in the "stupid interactive video things", it *did* look quite good for its age.
Good point, yeah I loved super tennis and smash tennis on the super famicom and also Power Smash 1 & 2 on the Dreamcast. I also like the Side Pocket series of pool games. I guess I just don't like US sports then again I don't like Sumo either but I guess you could call that a type of wrestling. Yakumo
What, that I have Street Fighter Alpha 2 on the Saturn? If I recall, you were the one with the next installment, although if you really want we can trade. It will be hard for me to accept the loss of my beloved SFA2, but I suppose I could cope...
There are a bunch of SFA2's on Ebay for Saturn brand new..... I was gonna pick one up myself eventually.
It's definately worth it, especially for the cheap prices it usually commands. To be accurate, I have Street Fighter ZERO 2, but it's really the same anyways. SFZ2 can sometimes be found cheaper than the US release. Blasphemy though it may be, I almost think I like it more than SFZ3...
Well, of course I have the game, but my point is I lack people to play it with. In fact, I think I own all Street Fighter games on Saturn minus SF Collection
I don't know about all that..... I can say MvC2 is my favorite 2D fighter right now, we'll see if that changes when X-Men VS. Streetfighter arrives.
