No because retail consoles can not connect to the Recovery software it just doesn't have those features. Also Recoveries were designed to be written directly to the consoles Nand not to the HDD the only thing that would go to the HDD are game samples of .xex's for developers who are new to the Xbox platform. The only way to write to the Nand is by having the console Jtagged or RGH. And then you already know the issue with the size so that's where RGL stepped in and solved that issue. What they did is strip down the XDK Recovery or XDK Nand and found a way to make a custom launcher to tell the Xbox "Hey you run X-Shell and if there's a HDD with the correct files on it allow the user to go to the Dashboard, if not give them this error." I wish it was easy just to run a recovery on a retail unit but it just doesn't work that way, if it did there would be millions of more people with bootleg XDK's. That's also why your not supposed to run an XDK recovery on a Jtag or RGH Xbox or else your corrupt/damage the nand.

Its good to write this down somewhere and so all the newbies to XDK and Devkits read that first.

Makes perfect sense now, Thanks! :) so if thats true couldn't we create a striped/toned down & patched XDK recovery and command the installer to add all dashboard settings, etc.. to the HDD or 512 MB's Ram/Drive but everything on it needs to be completely backed up or wiped first before starting to install it. if that can be possible instead? meaning that one hacker would have to crack it first correct?

The RGLoader team is working on that. Right now all original Xbox 360's besides BB Jaspers (256MB/512MB) models. The first two slim models are compatible as well but I not the latest standard corona or 4GB model. GMan had a similar problem with his Slim Prototype XDK using a recovery, it wrote onto his memory/ram and jacked it up, he had to keep using different recoveries to fix it. There's just no possible way to convert a retail into dev kit just like that, a lot of hardware is missing on retails to make them a full fledged dev kit. To make a retail a dev kit you'll just need to use RGLoader or find a broken XDK and swap the parts onto a retail using a reball workstation and soldering and see if that will work. If you want a dev kit I know where you can buy them brand new boxed with the sidecar for about $500-$600 (They DO NOT accept trades or bargain CASH/PayPal ONLY) but it's a risk you'll have to take, PM for more info.

I'm planning on buying another from where I bought mine, last time I bought a used repaired xdk from some ex Sega of Japan stock and it rrod on me 3 weeks later, luckly I was able to sell it and buy the Jasper from Shuma. This time I'm buying some fresh old stock one from 2007. It's a Falcon I think but I'm gonna save up my money for a while before I buy it.

Garage Games last official supported version of the Torque X Game Engines are up :smile-new: . Though you'll need a Valid XBL/XNA account and a Retail console to use it, I tried running a sample game with my Jtag and XDK using the offline version and it would crash on Visual Studio C# 2008 Express and XNA Game Studio 3.0/3.1. Waiting to get a copy of the latest CEV edition that support XNA Game Studio 4.0 Refresh.

If it's from 2007, it's probably a Xeypher, not a Falcon. Falcon hardware wasn't on the manufacturing lines until relatively late in 2007.

Not to be a grammar/spelling nazi, but your tag line at the top of the page needs to be "you're", not "your". :)

Also, you should change the title of the page (whatever it's called) from "null" to something else (that's what it shows up as in a google chrome tab).

    I like the site.

hmm, you have a good point does seem a bit tedious to do something careless on his homepage but i guess as long he knows what he's doing i'm sure he "might" be fine
