I did a bit of reading around the other day after someone here mentioned GCOS, there's a downloadable source for it.
boy Tmbinc, You know your stuff! :icon_bigg :icon_bigg :icon_bigg Of course it appear other members here are knee deep in this console stuff, eh? WOW! :love2: Thanks for your help! Alchy, Do you have a link for us?
Coming from someone who helped designing the Qoob, that's not surprising. Too bad those modchip creators leave their job unfinished. IIRC, the main brain behind the Qoob is the same guy who created the Crystal Chip. Both modchip whose last bios never saw a release (even after many teasers). Releasing source code wouldn't do any harm now, I really don't understand why it hasn't been done... Besides, if you want some informations about the various GC modchip, have a look at the Dextrose Forum.
Given that Assembler said "you won't find that here" (albeit for something else), I'm going to have to just point you to Google. I think a MaxConsole thread contained a link but it's likely to be hosted in a bunch of different places.
Well I got to look at some nice pics on the modding but in reality its hell when having to solder anything in these consoles with a regular iron. The other thing is to, is I believe the consoles aren't ment to be taking apart. some members manage but you had better make sure you have a spare sitting around. I opened my ps 2 and I'am farmilar with some of the parts do to past experince, but accidently broke 1 of the female ribbon clips. It happen cause dum sony cheaped out and put in 2 different types and other type is useless. To say the least I wasn't impressed! OH: I should have aleast 3 consoles each, of 1 type, but even with that I need special soldering equipment. Some of this equipment I know about other specialize stuff I most likely don't, but still its a real pain in the neck.
Hey, that is exactly what happened to my old PS2. I never paid for a PS2, but friends dumped there old busted ones on me...luckily I had an extra board but the cable thing for the controller ports busted and I had to swap the whole board, lol.
You missed the point, hard. Please re-read my post. GCOS is not a drive modchip, but a bios replacement (software). Yes, it contains drive patch code. No, it's still not a drive modchip (like all those wii modchips).
It was Sonys fault I broke my old PS2 because they didn't design it for me to monkey around in it! lol. But seriously, those stupid ribbon cable connectors were the stupidest thing ever to break. I was so angry. @ wildcat I was talking about my own god damned PS2, thank you very much. I had the same problem you did.
I figured you misunderstood me. Good god, I was merely saying I had the same thing happen to me. I'm not fucking flaming you. It's pretty obvious you don't understand me so whatever.
PhreQuencYViii, Your a very immature person, You either you drink too much or do more dope than you can handle when you get on this forum either way your very rude and obnoxious person. I actual have experience outside the console hardware environment. If you had pay attention to details of my post you would had know the above. How would I know sony placed 2 different types of ribbon clips in the ps2 without some sort knowledge or experiance? Either way you get back on topic and quit FLAMING anytime now.
Huh? Besides my last thing, when did I flame you?? I have no problem with you. I'm going to chalk this up to miscommunication. I'm guessing english isn't your first language, no problem with that. Definitely.
It has been released by the author and it has been upload to the gc-forever forums, feel free to take a look. It's also on eurasia.
