Are these still around, and available to buy at a decent rate? I'm after a GC modchip and am way out of the loop. Used to buy my chips from psxboy.net, but looks like that's gone now. I saw that ASSEMbler had a load for sale, but not anymore.

Reason I'm after one is because I might be getting some NTSC games. When it's confirmed they're mine (meaning I'll be needing a chip), then I'll get back to you

That's actually not a bad price at all, I'd snag it while you can man. They're easy chips to solder in, you can pretty much solder it on the bottom of the drive, only 6 joints.

Around here they cost around $20.
I got one in mine, pretty easy to install and you dont need to have a separeted memory card for each region, like using a region switch/bootloader

That's because you don't switch the region at all.

Well the program and source code for the Xeno-GC is out on the wild...

Now you can buy an 5 bucks blank ATMEGA8 and program it to behave as an Xeno GC ... Ugly, but if you're a DIY freak like me it's even more fun than buying it ready to solder lol

Wouldn't you need to swap in a Japanese BIOS to get 100% compatible "region free" goodness? Since the NTSC-U and PAL BIOSes lack some of the Japanese fonts...

Or does the Japanese BIOS not play fair with English titles?

I'm a little curious too. I can confirm text in Yoshi's Cookie doesn't show up right without the Japanese fonts.

I was long under the impression all NTSC-U cubes contain both BIOSes internally, but perhaps not... After all we weren't able to get that mod working on one of mine.

Except for the fonts. The NTSC-U BIOS is missing some fonts.

Wonder if there could be a nice hack for this one.

Yeah, something like this would be worth looking into. If anyone is particularly savvy in the GC scene, could you please let us know what your thoughts on this would be?

The console BECOMES an Japanese GC. You even have it ask to format the memory card if you insert it and it has been saved with US games.

So yes, it has the two BIOSes on the clock chip

It might have all three BIOS. Some one willing to remove the SMD and add three switches and check.

Hello, first post here after lurking for a couple of weeks. Anyone know if this chip enables 480p on PAL consoles? Obviously if installed in a PAL console it allows the booting of NTSC games but does it also enable all of the video properties of NTSC games?

Not too sure. I believe 480p was purposefully and intentionally left out of PAL game releases. Having exactly nothing to do with the console.

Ah so PAL consoles themselves are perfectly capable of 480p, it's just that PAL games are not? Just trying to figure out if I'll be able to play NTSC games in 480p on a chipped PAL console.

Would be interested to hear if anyone has tested this.
