Kit is in 1GB mode, and this is the frame rate i get: The' fucks goin on here? Whats all the hype about 1GB mode when an atari 2600 can run faster than this. EDIT) So it's likely to do with HDD write-speed, I will test this when i get the chance.
Xbmovie always was a pos, best i've ever gotten was a 10 second clip without any visible lag, and that was recording a very low use homebrew game of mine, and that was a 1/10 shot. I think one of the major problems is the massive file size of the .xbm or whatever its called that is stored on the HD before its sent to the host PC and converted (if chosen in cmd) just seems illogical that it's trying to write gb's of data to the HD while playing the game etc etc I did find it helped my lottery of a good clip if I cleared all the previous .xmb files from the HD before trying again, also possibly coincidence but if I booted straight to the xex i wanted to record bypassing xshell or other menus it would also seem to increase my chances
I heard somewhere that its largely depended on the speed of your HDD, since the files have to be written there in real time. Is that true?
Play the game off of a flash drive instead of the hdd. Since you are correct as the system is trying to read the game off of the hdd as well write to it for the xbmovie.
yea I would guess the fastest drive you can get in there could only prove a plus,, hdd upgrading is not something I have ever done specifically for read or write speed so i'm not much help for solid info or test experience differences on the matter of using various drives with XBmovie my old .bat was this.. xbmovie /X:begal /f:2 C:\Users\begal\Desktop\testmov.wmv I vaguely remember trying other conversion options and either quality was worse than crap or failure of one type or another,, but that was ages ago LOL I eventually gave up on xbmovie for recording games or any clip longer than a couple seconds in general and made do with a roxio component cable cap device that an online friend was kind enough to gift me.
I'll definitely test out various write speed-drives, see how much of an impact it has. Thanks man. I have an Elgato HD capture, my main reason for posing this XBMovie question is it seems lots and lots of people have issues with it as well. Theres no real good advice out there on troubleshooting this shit.
Right on man, no problem, you are exactly spot on about that , with XBMovie its like a weird myth that it exists but no real solid proof of it working well for anyone in the collecting/modding/homebrew 360 world. I know there have been a few GUI's built (I've added it to a couple of my console control tools as well) but that obviously only makes it convenient if already using the multi tool or just cant stand cmd tools or .bat files,, sadly it does not make the cmd tool magically better lol. Ultimately I think it really boils down to the hardware limitations, the 360 just was never designed to be able to record native video, I don't remember ever trying back in those days but I would bet any pc running 512mb or 1gb ram would barely record it's own desktop let alone while running a game or semi high use program. That being said it would be nice to hear from someone that had experience with press promos and trailer recording from a company that released x360 titles to see if they ever used it to capture actual 360 footage or if they used an external device or worse yet, just cheated PC build footage lol
THIS! ^ hahaha. I'd love to know if they bothered with XB or they just hooked up their dazzle and recorded away.
They also tended to record things frame by frame. Slow down the game enough and you dont have to worry about dropped frames. I have plenty of evidence of that.
