The official component cables work fine as VGA cable if you're using SoG. All you need is three of these: (and a monitor with BNC inputs...)

Or you can wire a adapter that take the three RCA inputs and convert to a mini DB-15 plug. Easy to make, really.

I use those with my Sony PVMs but as far as I'm aware it doesn't accept VGA or even 480p. Think I should go double check that bit though.

EDIT: Sync on green does work but when I popped my GameCube on the 1351Q F-Zero GX was fine until I enabled 480p mode. Gave a great double image on the left and right sides but it doesn't look like it does progressive scan. With as much money as these things used to cost you'd think they'd support at least 480p.

thanks. but i want to use my official component cables on a monitor which doesn't support sog (and has no BNC inputs). so i have to use a sync stripper and a passive adapter for 15-pin vga.

I already have a component cable, I'm going to use this adapter

    with a coupler

I'm also using this with the respective coupler for sound

    I checked this tutorial: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22773726/web/PS2_VGA_cable.html
I'm not sure yet where I should connect the LM1881 Vcc pin.

    Lame.
Bought everything from DealExtreme, the total cost was about 7$.

I hope I can open it easily. If thats not the case I will try to do something like the pic below but with VGA instead of SCART

i am really not sure you got what i mean. the design you linked needs an external power source with 5 volts. and it is not explained in the scheme where you can get that power from.

I have a lot of spare 5v power bricks, so thats not a problem.
If its really required an external source I would prefer a homemade VGA box like this one below.
