Yahoo's gone pretty crazy recently, ne?

Anyone know who mrcartz is? He's paying $400 for a Famicom Station with no guns and duplicate games? $150 for an unboxed FM Towns Marty? $50 for a Virtual Boy? $275 for an unboxed, scuffed Sharp Famicom Titler? huh?

Check out this Wondermega auction, at nearly $400 so far once you include shipping...

    http://page4.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d77610569.

The buyer can't be reseller. I doubt you could get $400 for a Wondermega with scuffs these days on eBay. You'd actually need to clear almost $450 after the fees just to break even.

Others include gimlet2003jp, azumi ya, and others. Who are these guys? They can't be Japanese, they can't be making any money as resellers, and they can't be bidding on behalf of others because that would mean the Buyer is paying commission on top of that crazy price.

    So who does that leave?

Western or new buyers really do pay stupid amounts that piss me off. I know I'll get slated for saying that but it's true.

I take it you get pissed off as they seem to want the things you want rather then the "How dare you pay $200 for this unboxed Victor Saturn from me, I won't accept that, please pay $60 instead..."

Maybe some people started getting pissed off seeing they were always overbided by resellers like you so they start to pay the ebay price rather than the yahoo price (which grew up because of people like you)

Indeed but some of these have suffered from bitrot so if it's working then thats okay. The MSX LD and VHDs are the ones that most MSX collectors give their children for as some of the good ones are quite rare.

I would love to get hold of Timegal on VHD for the MSX / or Sharp X1 but I like my kidneys too much, working (and as VHD was a analogue system that was similar to CED (go look it up), few probably still work) they normally go for prices that make sealed Radiant Silverguns look like a poundland bargain.

It is boxed, and if you read carefully it comes with a handjob if you come pick it up.

You always have to give a smart arse comment, don't you. This isn't NTSC-UK you know.

Is that comment aimed at me? Not sure if it was but just in case it was I'll make it clear that I have never bought from Yahoo to sell on EBay, not even once ! In fact I've used EBay less than 35 times while I've used Yahoo Auctions about 280 times.

Oh I buy from Yahoo and sell on eBay all the time. And I've never complained about anything. My comment was that they're paying higher than eBay prices which is illogical.

I don't think they're Japanese because they can get it for less somewhere else, I don't think they're proxy bidders because that would make the price even higher, and they can't be resellers because no one would pay $400 to make $20.

Let's be real....an unboxed, scuffed Famicom Titler for $275? That's higher than the brand new models sell for on ebay. So I'm wondering who these people are.

I'm not trying to start a war with anyone... There's plenty people don't know about reselling from Japan. It's a job like any other and you have to work hard to make money at it. I do it because I enjoy the freedom and the ability to see some really cool hardware in person. It won't make you rich, that's for sure.

I'm actually pretty much running out of things to look for on Yahoo Auctions(!). I was able to pick up pretty much everything I was looking for. (Magazines, promos, samplers, merchandise).

There's a couple of things I keep checking for (like Sega prototypes, doubt it very much some will pop up).

Yakumo: I was of course talking bout japan-games.
Japan-games: didn't want to be arse. Of course, it's a lot of job if you want to make a living of it. Only thing I meant was that a couple of people like you are buying tons of stuff on yahoo, thus the demand grows and the prices start to raise. And more and more foreign buyers (like me) start to put high prices when they used to put at least half the ebay price if they want to buy anything.

That's cool then, I didn't really catch your tone from the message. I'm also a bit pissy because I just spent $3,600 on lawyer fees and registration fees to make my Japanese company...heh. Before I was using my US registered company which was a total of $6. Doing business in Japan ain't cheap...and I might lose all of it if I don't get my Visa renewed, which was the topic of another thread...heh.
