It's nothing new. I was doing the same thing in somewhat sizeable volume as early as 2000. I still buy stuff w/ the intention of rebuying but Ebay is a last resort. I've only posted one stack of games this whole year.

Proxy services have had a higher impact. And, let's not forget the Japanese resellers. Yamatoku grabbed anything and everything on Yahoo for a LONG fucking time.

They have games on VHD? No way... I've been browsing VHDs on Yahoo for years. I've sold a few of the 9500 movie players that have 3-D titles. Never once do I remember ever coming across a game title. But then again if I did it wouldn't be so rare I guess...heh.

Yeah, I remember those days. I have they have their own shop now and they buy direct from the public instead.

They always did. Their intro page stated "we're a shop" but why wait for people to bring you stuff when you can just nab everything off Yahoo. Someone made a gag account called "Yametoku Offense" which I thought was quite a clever pun on their account name Yamatoku Office.

For an auction site that consists of 99% of people not willing to 'ship internationally' that's quite a clever idea :110:

Subaru driving simulator PS2-GT4 electromotive 6 axial cockpit

Not sure if this falls outside of the normal remit of this subforum - but, if money & space were of no issue to me, then I would quite happy to get my hands on one of these -> http://page21.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/j6188384?

That does look like sex, although you would have to replace the GT Force controller with a GT Pro and buy a copy of GT4 for it... (I've been told that even the normal game can output via USB various signals to control the hydrolic cabinet so you get the sensation of braking, steering, accelerating, etc). Keep meaning to get 3 more PS2s and hook up a wide screen view and a rear view mirror...

If you are in Tokyo and want to play a better version of this then go to Tokyo Bay and visits Toyotas big car thing and they have 3 large units that are playing GT4 with a GT Pro wheel and 3 large screens.

It sure does. I played on one in the Subaru show room last year in Shimonoseki. I posted a few pictures of it as well. The problem is though that it controlls like crap!

Yakumo, was it sloppy, or inaccurate, or some other problem? Just curious - I've never had a chance to actually try one of these...

The Toyota one played like it should in GT4, although with auto gears, STM and ABS... :(

It was sloppy as hell. The movement from the wheel to what the car did was just so unrealistic.

I'm sure this is a stupid question (and possibly in the wrong place - sorry if it is), but how do you bid on Yahoo Japan auctions? I used to look through them quite often, and there was always something I wanted to get, but I never knew how to go about doing it. I couldn't even figure out how to contact the sellers to see if they would even ship internationally.

Most of 'em won't ship outside Japan - your best bet is to use a deputy service to do the bidding & deal with the seller. Be warned, though - it can get expensive, after the fees & additional shipping charges.

Here's some google linkage for you -> http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=yahoo+auctions+deputy&btnG=Search

If you're doing it for pricey items (20,000 yen and up) the comission percentage-wise isn't so bad.
