I wanted to get some opinions on this. Basically this week Yakuza 3 will finally be hitting US store shelves, with hostess bars and other very non-westerner ideas deleted. Now this isn't surprising, but whats surprising is they are releasing this game that was so requested by fans against the US release of Final Fantasy 13, one of the biggest games of the year and for the PS 3. The easiest answer is Sega wants it to fail. They probably spent about $30 and some employee lunches localizing it in order to appease the fans who demanded it. When Yakuza 3 was released in Japan it was huge. It could have been huge in the US as well, with the proper marketing. Its not going to happen. I've seen this happen in the movie industry, films getting released in one town and then going to dvd. But this may be a first for a video game. Any thoughts?
The demo was glitchy I felt. The concept is nice but the execution -gameplaywise- is half-assed in my view.. (in the demo at least). The graphics also look nice in cutscenes but totally average during play.
Can't wait for this, loved the demo! Not fussed with FFXIII, I hated FFXII and this just looks like more of the same (stupid combat system)
I still need to finish the first two. Loving Yakuza so far. I don't know what it'd be like to play a similar game without some of the realities in it. So, no hostess bars. What about... host bars? I got my ass kicked by in the beginning of the first one. As long as I still feel like I'm playing a side-product of Shenmue but more extreme, I'll be satisfied... but I'm still quite dissapointed it seems like they copped-out and just decided not to finish it.
Yakuza is so great. I don't care if they cut some stuff out. It's still freaking Yakuza 3. I'm buying it as my bday gift for myself. =) Actually thinking about it. I think yakuza evolved from Spike Out/Spikers battle (a 3d brawler from AV, the same sega division who made yakuza). It has some similarities in combat. Spike Out (M3) > Slash Out (Naomi) > Spikers Battle (Naomi) -> Yakuza -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RQ7Gt0welw (Spikers battle) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM0s6N1lR3s (Spike Out) -- - Edit - Eurogamer liked it. 8/10 http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/yakuza-3-european-review
Regarding the p0rn, you can download a free DLC to enable it. I downloaded it despite not intending to purchase the game in the near future - you never know=p
Small heads up, If someone wants the game, they better buy it NOW and not tomorrow. It seems stores are getting very few copies. Hell in toronto it seems stores are getting 2-4 copies each. =X -ps- Has anybody noted the bottom of assembler's main page? Judging by the OT boards I would say no.:crying:
:< Man it seems stores like Game Crazy here in the us don't carry shit anymore. I Go in there looking for stuff and they have practically nothing. ps happy birthday? lol
Had my copy pre-ordered for months, so hopefully will get a copy no problem. Also just spent the last 3 hours playing FFXIII and it's so bloody boring, auto attack x10, potion, auto attack x10, rinse, repeat.
Yay, Lookie at what I picked up on my way home. =) (Y2 is there for fun) Lucky for me, my wife seems beat from work (we actually celebrated my birthday yesterday), so I might be able to sneak in a few hours later tonight!
FFXIII and Yakuza 3 are two completely different types of games, both of which I love, I'll be buying both. However, I really dont think Sega wants it to fail....they just want to get the two year old game out of the way.
Thanks for the heads up on limited copies. I bought FF 13 US version last night (Yakuza didn't ship early) and was going to procrastinate a bit. Looks like I'll pick it up soon just to be sure.
I just got done playing about 2 hours worth. Great stuff. I think I might snag a second copy to save if I see the game really starts to become hard to come by. For anybody who missed out on Yakuza 1 and/or 2. The game gives you a story overview of each game. This information can be seen at the start of the game or directly from the main menu. Worth watching if you haven't played either game (since the game is a continuous time-line).
Retail stores like Gamestop might not keep a lot of copies on hand but Amazon should have enough on hand for a while. That's how it was at least with Yakuza 2.
My copy arrived today (it's not out in the UK until tomorrow), about 4 hours in and loving this game, FFXIII can go jump, while FFXIII is the most beautiful game to date, this is actually fun to play. It actually reminds me of the Japanese drama "my boss, my hero" as it's so goddamn cheesy in places, but funny for it rather than being cringeworthy.
2 card mini games Hostess Club stuff although you can still date them Mini game: Answer X Answer (basically a general trivia game) you can see why as this would take awhile to localize That's just off the top of my head, I have the import and enjoyed it quite a bit !
