Did Sega do any tv ads? Didn't see any here in California. This is one of the biggest series in Japan and is just neglected by the US marketing team. Its criminal!
Zero promotion from what I can I tell, nothing on TV up here in Canada and no game store promo of any type anywhere. I just don't get it, localization wasn't cheap for this, it reeks of Yakuza 2 and it's "non promotion". I mean granted, it's SEGA not Activision with MW2 which cost 25,000,000 and the ad campaign cost 250,000,000 but still
I've heard some ebgames in the state had in store promotions. As for advertisement, they did online advertisement. It's hard not to get a yakua 3 ad while watching videos at gametrailers.com or ign.
and that is something you're not going to see often in western games. Not to mention that unless you live in a huge city like New York or LA. A company is not going to fork out the insane amount of cash to do something like that. Also to talk about yakuza 3 again, I played some more today. Man still so good. The scene at the love hotel with the clerk was hilarious. Also I learned a life lesson thanks to yakuza, girls love to hang out a burger joints and are dying for you to take them out on dates. LOL that was an odd choice sega.
Bump of this old topic. I finally beat the game today and it feels great to complete it. My completion time was 19 hours with only 12.7% of the game completed. =/ And I though I did a fair amount of side missions. Guess there are many more to go back to play. The final chapter was awesome to play through but I felt the ending kind of sucked. It was kind of short and I think they should have done a better 2nd to last video and not do the last video at all (give the game a cliff hanger). Anyway, I pray to god the game did decent enough to warrant the release of Yak 4. Looking forward to march's NPD (should be out this week).
I finished it the other week as well (25 hours, 30%) and have to agree, the ending was just too Japanese I guess (can't explain it without spoiling the ending). Glad it opened up a free play mode though, gives you the chance to grind achievements by endlessly taking Haruka to burger joints and bowling. Definitely hoping it sold enough to warrant translating Yakuza 4 as well.
Yeah, last night I end up starting up the continue adventure mode so I can do all the side missions I missed.
That is pretty awesome. I noticed HMV got some restock a week ago but in limited quantities (like 1-3 copies per store) and even those seem to be disappearing. I know canada won't show up in NPDs but i'm still hopeful maybe sales in the USA were not really all that bad.
Well it certainly has to have done better then 2 which only sold 40K copies (I seriously doubt that number but who knows) Gameshack was buying them in batches of three, they are being cautious.
