Indeed, although in South Wales there are lots of place names that have been called what they have been called for hundreds of years and now that all towns should be in Welsh too, they have gone around making up Welsh spellings for towns like Barry (Barri). A friend of mine is a social worker in said town and he says that children who go to the Welsh language schools normally have a good education in Welsh but as there are so few teachers who speak Welsh they struggle with every other lesson and normally leave school with a GCSE in Welsh and bugger all else.
From the welsh lads I work with it wasn't even that for them. The problem is that with out the techers it will soon die out for good.
