The disks are the OST, I was heartbroken when Rave Racer was cancelled for home, so I a few years later I found a VERY good System 22 emulator and the OST. The OST is REALLY rare but I looked out on 2, I wonder if there is anyone out there who feels for Rave Racer what many feel for Sonic X-Treme.......

I'm with you! Ridge Racer and Rave Racer are my two most favourite games and I played Ridge Racer for years (no joke) on and off to get my lap times down. I still think Ridge Racer is the best racing game ever made, bar none.

I have to say though, Ridge Racer 2/Revolution OST is the best of the series. ...Dat dan day! Wow!

And who can forget the crazy horse sample in the Rotterdam Nation tracks? :020:

Edit: PS: There was a rumour of a tech demo disc made available with Rave Racer running in rolling demo mode on it, which came packaged with the first release Power VR PCI card. However, it has never been recovered. I know it was shown at some game shows back in the 90's.

Religious leaders and Scientists, Democrats and Republicans, Capitalists and Communists, they all have agreed that the Best racing game is F-zero X.

That's not even in the top 10. The original F-Zero sends it home to its momma!

Ridge Racer Type 4 is the best of the series, no doubts about that.

But i can't stop playing RRV and Ridge Racer Revolution. I would play Ridge Racer a lot too, but i don't have it (yet). Rage Racer is a great game, but i don't like it that much.

Back to the topic, Ridge Racer series OST always had some cool tunes. I don't remember Rave Racer that much (i only played it twice, before the arcade got rid of it), but the OST is probably great as well.

Well it seems the list you refer to was compiled by my grandfather or something, because I can't see how a game like F-zero X (+ Xpansion Kit) could be ignored or dismissed. Sure it's a very difficult game, and unlike GX, you can't 'snake-cheat' your way through the levels - maybe that's why not many people appreciated it? Because it was just too damn hard? ;)

PS: the original F-zero was rock-hard too, but that was mostly the result of odd controls more than speed/other players.

Are you sure the Rave Racer OST is rare? I have a copy that I bought for about 600 yen a year or two ago. (I don't really like the music in it anyway.)

Ridge Racer 2's music is the best in the series though. I can listen to "Grip" for 30 minutes nonstop.

I don't mean to say F-Zero X was bad, just it isn't in the top 10 IMO. Also they used that terrible synth rock sound track instead of the Acid Jazz of the original. That kicked it off my list for certain.

RR-Type 4 was a great game, a real showcase for the PS, but I don't feel it had the classic status of Ridge Racer. Also, why the heck did Namco mess with the steering in RR:Revolution? I will never understand it

    My top 10 RR tunes:

    1. ...Dat Dan Day (RR2/Rev)
    2. Speedster (RR)
    3. Lords of Techno (RR2/Rev)
    4. Electroglide (RR5)
    5. Naked Glow (RRT4)
    6. Silver Stream (Rage Racer)
    7. Nitro Mantra (RR6)
    8. Galactic Life (RR6)
    9. Eat 'em up (Pacman bonus) (RRT4)
    10. Hurricane Hub (Rage Racer)

I think it is cool that the mixers now put their name to the tracks they create and Ridge Racers has those nice remixed tracks. Definitely worth searching out the OST to that game.

Jim, be kind enough to compile a top10 of your racing games, just to defend such allegations against my dearest f-zero x!:p

    Tricky! OK, my personal list:

    1. Ridge Racer (I am controlling myself and limited it to 1 RR game)
    2. Outrun
    3. Daytona USA
    4. Sega Rally
    5. Gran Turismo 2 (4 is best but 2 was the real stand out)
    6. Super Mario Kart (would be higher, but the computer cheats like a bastard)
    7. F-zero
    8. Outrun 2 (or Scud Race... tough one, Outrun 2 wins it and is different enough from the original to be included here!)
    9. GTI Club
    10. Wipeout 2097/XL

I have an arcade bias perhaps, but I feel that genre is best suited to that situation.

If we are to consider multi-player only:

    1. Ridge Racer 2 (arcade or RR 1 for the PS)
    2. Daytona USA
    3. Super Mario Kart
    4. Sega Rally
    5. Scud Race/SuperGT
    6. Burnout 3
    7. Manx TT Superbike
    8. Wipeout 2097
    9. Gran Turismo
    10. Virtua Racing

    Oh! No F-Zero!

    Ok that does it.

To include Sega Rally 1 instead of 2, to even consider wipeout despite it's shitty collisions and low sense of speed compared to f-zero X and for even bothering with a game like Gran Turismo I think that something is wrong here!

Even if you do include Wipeout, why the hell would one prefer the PSX over the Saturn or even better, the N64 version?!

I laugh at that statement. The Saturn version is pig ugly and the N64 version suffers from control problems thanks to that flick switch thumb pad!

    Laugh I say!

    Wipeout 2097 -slow-?

Obviously someone was never good enough to unlock Phantom class. :)

Though if you do want true speed, get yourself a PAL version of WO 2097 on the Saturn and a NTSC console. Drop the PAL version in and go and you're playing the fastest version of Wipeout ever coded. heh

F-Zero GX on the Cube also rocks.

hl718, I m talking about 'effective speed' . The controls on every wipeout game suck. You crash, it halts. Memorizing a track to avoid bad controls is not my idea of a good racing game, let alone rival of f-zero X.

GX was OK, but it lacked the rawness and har-assness of the X. GX can be easily beaten in the hardest of settings, using snaking.

He boasts about speed but we have sampled a Zonda, while his best is a Honda!

Well apparently you old people haven't experienced the harshness of racing F-zero X in Master. Try racing and slamming your vehicle into opponents and still come first by acrobatically and accurately controlling a super-fast spaceship with an actual analogue stick!

Then , try the 64DD expansion to make some tracks and for 2 other hardcore cups.

Phantom on 2097 is fast, but racing games are not about running a straight line and achieving max-speed for 10 seconds, even Extreme G2 did that (pretty damn well with the sound effects n all)

Does any wipeout support an elaborate track creation or random track generator as good as F-zero X?

Is the multiplayer of any Wipeout as good as F-zero X?

Does wipeout support REAL analogue , precise controls over the vehicles?!

All those questions are rhetoric of course because they are naturally answered in the negative!

I haven't sampled the delight of the 64DD track editor, but I don't consider that to be part of the core experience of FZero X. A good bonus nonetheless though.

Wipeout 2097 offers something FZero X never can - link mode multiplayer. You heard me correctly dear boy - that's full screen multiplayer racing. Good grief! But somehow they made it reality.
