Depends on the store. If it's an EB I'm in and out quick. I glance at the 3DS games, quickly flip through preowned then get the hell out so I don't have to listen to the advertising they play in store.

If it's a smaller independent shop (which don't exist here any more) I'd spend ages - usually chatting with the staff.

It's just because they don't pay taxes in Montana. And on the 3DS and Wii U when they ask for a zip code they explain its for taxing reasons. I saw that and said "REALLY?!" So I googled a zip code of a city that doesn't pay taxes and it worked. Now I only pay the listed price for the game in the store. And in the store, they don't charge tax for the money cards for Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft. So it's brilliant.

23, I grew up with Harry Potter, my age got the Harry Potter books and the good Pokemon games. We're blessed people. The early gamers even got to play the good Sonic games, and VECTORMAN

    Wish I'd thought of that.

Maybe once I get a Wii U I'll do that.

I miss doing that. Sometimes the store I went to, the owner would order a pizza for all of us and lock the doors. Play on the kiosks, good fun!

Seems we know why they went out of business.

it's a friendly atmosphere, but a terrible business model.

    Nice! :)

My favourite used to be near some cinemas so we'd walk across and buy him choc-tops/popcorn/lunch etc since he couldn't leave the store. He'd repay us with small discounts on games and by letting us play whatever we wanted on a "special" demo machine. A whole bunch of us were on first name basis, like a small community built around a store. I wish it were possible for those days to return.

I'm picturing Clerks only as a game store.

Sounds like an awesome owner too!

The funniest moment I had at the store was, the owner bought beer for his colleague. His there drinking a few sips, suddenly a customer walks in. He's there doing a pre-order and burping at the same time, the owner, myself and his friend were just laughing at him. :p

For anything new it is Amazon all the way so on the rare instance I'm at a Gamestop it is less than 10 mins. Retro stores take about a half-hour to scope for any good buys that slipped through the cracks.

The only good pokemon games in my opinion were Red and Blue...the ones I grew up with.

As for Harry Potter well each to their own but as a 28 yr old bitter and twisted individual I'd rather stab myself in the eye than read another one of those books (read the first one, didn't see what all of the fuss was about).

I liked the Harry Potter books (I think we can all agree they're better than Twilight), and with every new generation of insane Pokemon I get a little sadder.

Lol, now I have read all of the Twlight books (I was in a hostel in Australia for a while and it's all they had) and well, they weren't so bad.

I've grown enough to leave the store and come back with a plan.

Since most (German) stores completely removed demo kiosks I have no reason to walk into those stores anymore.
Game stores are also way too expensive to buy from nowadays. All special deals are being copied by the online competition as well. Sad for the stores, but why pay more?

Here in Tokyo however, I literally spend days browsing through the shelves in retro game stores!
