NEVER put a cd in the microwave. It will destory the disc and make your microwave explode.

I put a dish with a fork in it in to a microwave once by mistake. You should have seen the sparks fly !! it was like a thunder storm in the microwave. I'm never doing that again.

Putting water in the microwave supposedly isn't a good idea either... the energy can accumulate and then "explode" into boiling water flying in all directions when you take it out of the microwave.

I can confirm this is true I have had this happen many a time I have put a cold cup of coffee in the microwave for a few minutes longer than I should have.

Quite an impressive sight... as long as you aren't in range...

If I recall correctly, there was a lawsuit here in Holland when a boy got bad burns in the face because of this effect :smt1069

I guess I should have taken a before and after shot when i boiled my OXM disk.

From what it seems to me is that any marks our scratches that were there are still there, not many mind you as the cd was only a day or so old. But i did notice it seems cleaner and the surface less foggy. So it would seem it does take a small layer of either plastic or some crap left on from production.

Oh and Madhatter as for the blank media you burn, its made up off a type of dye that is between two pieces of plastic. Your burner heats up the die with the laser and causes it to either pit or rise where the 1 or 0 should be (cant remember which). So if you were to boil a CDR you would cook or harden all the die and lose the data. Kinda of a crude half ass explenation but you get the idea.

Did you see the one where they spun CD's with routers (not the network kind) and made them explode? :smt043

If you put a lightbulb in a microwave, it lights up, no sparks :smt023

Yep..The one I liked the most, besides the water on the microwave, was the eps with the guy who was hit by a trumpet, thx to the maestro. They've tried 4 times but with no sucess.
Another excellent eps was about a taxi that was blown away by a plane turbine.
I was watching and thinking...I remember this news, it happened in Brazil and bam..They show a Brazilian magazine stating that was indeed true.

That's nothing. My dad works for ESSO in Liverpool Airport and they had to watch this saftey video. He brought it home to show us something so horrible you wouldn't belive it. There was this plane on the runway which had it's engine running. The Esso attendent walked infront of the engine and was sucked straight in to it then a shit load of goo and blood splatted out of the other end. This is all real too. No fake shit on this tape. It'S to show how dangerous it is when working with planes. If it was fake or special effects Esso probably think that nobody would take it seriously. It sure made me sick.

I use toothpaste to polish my CDs, it actually works quite well.

Also, can someone confirm that lightbulb in the microwave business?
