So a friend and I were talking over some drinks last night and Midway was brought up. Oh how I miss Midway... but back to the topic. We discussed how cool the cheat code system in NFL Blitz was. I would always play as Raiden from Mortal Kombat. i wanted to see which cheat codes were people's favorites. Well, besides the Konami Contra code haha.
While more of a glitch and less of a cheat, i have always been fond of the colored gauntlets in Zelda:Ocarina of Time. As far as my favorite cheat, it would have to be the no clipping cheat from Doom 1 (idspispopd). The story behind it is that a magazine did a preview of doom, and said "youll be Smashing Pumpkins Into Smelly Piles Of Putrid Debris". The Doom team thought it was funny, and made it the cheat for no clipping, lol.
Not sure if it's a cheat code, but using the sound test to discover debug mode (as well as others) in old platformers is always fun.
The pedestrian ones were always hilarious. Made the game feel a little like State of Emergency. The dismemberment one was also pretty funny.
I knew a lot of the VC cheats off by heart, but flying cars was awesome with the tank firing backwards
Ahh, I knew it was something like that. Dunno why my brain always replaces the word small with smelly, probably has something to do with the word putrid being in there also, lol. At any rate, still my favorite cheat just because of the story behind it
Hitman 2's nailgun cheat that let you pin enemies to the wall was always fun. In ISS Deluxe you could change the referee and linesman into dogs. Held their flags and cards in their mouths. Money cheat in SNES Sim City. While not cheats per se, had loads of fun back in the day with SNES Street Fighter 2 and an Action Replay. Mid-air special moves, high speed, low gravity throws etc.
I do remember doing that one. Then looking behind to view all the destruction I was causing then fleeing away from. 5 stars ridiculously fast. Also, would the Nailgun cheat from HM2 be similar to the Penetrator from F.E.A.R.? If so, I might have to bust out my HM2 for the GC to give it a shot.
Some of the best cheat codes ever are in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark (N64). Not only are the standard fist person shooter style cheats in there (such as Infinite Health, infinite Ammunition, Have All Weapons, etc), but you also get cheats that make the game harder! It might well sound stupid to those who've never played the games, but it's really a great idea, as it adds more challenge and so more replayablitiy for those who have played the games through many times and want more of a challenge. These cheats include Enemy Rockets (all enemies carry personal rocket launchers instead of normal guns), Enemy Shields (basically enemies have shields/armour so they are much harder to kill), and the brilliant fourth difficulty mode. See, both Perfect Dark and Goldeneye have three difficulty settings for their single player campaign, easy, medium, and hard. When you complete the game on hard, then you unlike a 'definable' difficulty option, where you choose the enemies Health, Damage they inflict upon you, and Accuracy (and also their Reaction times, on Goldeneye, but Perfect Dark doesn't have that setting). This has enabled players to create custom modes, and two of them (License to Kill, and Dark License to Kill) are very popular amongst the hardcore GE/PD fans. License to Kill: GoldenEye 007 Enemy Health: 0% Enemy Damage: 1000% Enemy Accuracy: 100% Enemy Reaction Time: 100% Perfect Dark Enemy Health: 10% (Perfect Dark won't allow you to set Enemy Health to less than 10%) Enemy Damage: 1000% Enemy Accuracy: 1000% Which means that the enemies can kill you in just one shot. On the plus side, any enemy will die from one shot from you. Dark License to Kill: GoldenEye 007 Enemy Health: 1000% Enemy Damage: 1000% Enemy Accuracy: 100% Enemy Reaction Time: 100% Perfect Dark Enemy Health: 1000% Enemy Damage: 1000% Enemy Accuracy: 1000% Now, even though you still die from one shot, the enemies are *very* hard to kill. Even so, some people still manage to speed-run though this game mode, which amazes me! It would be so great if other first person shooters had options like these, to add re-playability, and to challenge the very experienced players.
I remember seeing Alien Breed codes in a magazine and laughing back in the day. I don't remember seeing this one though: Wow, that's incredibly tasteless. For those who don't know in 1958 a plane carrying the Man Utd team crashed killing 8 players and 15 other people.
^^ YEP! :cocksure: i held off pointing that out, thanks. bernard manning fan here, tasteless is a mere POV. (if we didn't laugh, call it 'brushing under the carpet' brass eye made that point to it's maximum effect. not making light, but...) [edit] i'm from UK so, please, no wrong ideas.
Yeah, that is rather cold. Not sure how often those kind of cheats pop up in games. Hopefully developers don't have senses of humor that are that intolerable.
^^ political correctness, can't get away from it, all in context. were you born then? do you have relatives involved? i don't, and wasn't alive that far back. I"M LAUGHING AT MY OWN, so were they. if you're english born and blood, you'd understand. will agree to this, our 'humor' is clearly worlds apart from the rest, intolerable is another word for 'powerless to control'...:smile-new: dig into UK history, see the losses, but we're known for brushing it off, laugh and carry on, life is such.
Konami Code Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A (Start) Descent "gabbagabbahey" Duke Nukem 3D "DNCORNHOLIO"
That Man United jokes not funny on any level just sick and Bernard Manning was a horrible racist, But each to his own I guess. Anyway back on topic, The only cheat code I could ever remember was Sonic's: Up, Down, Left, Right hold down A and press start, It gives you level select and sound test. I used to use it not to skip levels but to listen to the music . I was a nerdy kid
