1- Leisure Suit Larry (the whole series, can't pick one!..but if you insist then probably number 6 followed by 7) (PC) 2- Grim Fandango (PC) 3- Monkey Island 3 (PC) 4- Indiana Jones: And the Fate of Atlantis (PC) 5- Hotel Dusk: Room 215 (DS) 6- The Neverhood (PC) 7- Runaway (PC) 8- Monkey Island 2 (PC) 9- Discworld Noir 10- Simon the Sorceror (I and II, 3d was ok) I'd include Interplay's Dark Earth but it isn't a pure adventure game, a very good game that has been mostly unknown to the world - I highly recommend it if you find it for purchase or download, it's a fairly old game, but with stunning cinematics and 3d graphics (For its time) LBA (Little Big Adventure) I and II are also amazing games I d also recommend Zak McCracken, The Day of the Tentacle, the other Discworld games (and the books from what I ve heard), Gabriel Knight (all three), Phantasmagoria, Loom, and The Flight of the Amazon Queen. Feel free to suggest some games that you consider worthy but I may have omitted - adventure games just get better with age. Whenever I get the time, I intend to invest it in going through the Space Quest series by Sierra (being a star wars fan ) now, I guess it's your turn to post ;-)
Along with those you have already listed i also loved.... Companions of xanth, a really quirky point n click that relied on puzzles using wordplay riddles. Like you needed a jar to hold something & there was a door open in the room if you looked at the door the description would say the door is ajar (hehe get it). So youd pick up the door & it would magically turn into a jar. Kingdom o magic was another funny point n click which used comedy throughout. I remember it been pretty good back then. & finally the fantastic Legend of kyrandia series of games. My fave was hand of fate. Shivers by sierra was pretty good, its puzzles were pretty hard & it had really creepy music. This was truly the golden age of pc gaming. Not like today full of shit war games, fps games, fps war games. Bring back the point n click adventures.
I love this game. It was maybe the first adventure game I played and it's so hilarious. You should try and track down the FM Towns version that has improved graphics and looks great (works with ScummVM of course).
I would have a hard time choosing only 10 games, since there are so many classic adventures. But if I had to it would have to include Gabriel Knight 1(the rest were good, but not great), Grim Fandango, space quest 1-3, leisure suit larry 1 and 2 etc. As far as games you didn't mention, I would say Normality(if only for it's unique, for an adventure, first person/doom like graphics), Maniac mansion(nes version), and the deja vu series are all games worth playing. Though probably not good enough to be included in a top 10. Not sure if everyone would consider it an adventure(it's not point and click that's for sure) but I though Farenheit was a very good, although very flawed game(especially the last third of the game with the cyber ghosts and whatnot). Up until that point the game had almost taken Gabriel Knight 1's position as my favorit non-comedy adventure.
1) Harvester, awsome adult themed horror game 2) Quest for Glory Series 3) Zac McKracken - cool game, like the second computer game I ever bought 4) Kings quest series, pretty good but needed some form of combat 5) Zork - text only adventures but these games taught me how to type when I was a kid
1) Final Fantasy (obvious) (SNES and others) 2) Zelda (SNES & others) 3) 7th Guest & 11Th Hour (PC) 4) Monkey Island (PC) 5) The guardian Legend (NES)
I don't think Final Fantasy and Zelda fall into the 'Graphical/Text Adventure' category - there's too much action and less emphasis on solving puzzles (eg, usin one-off items instead of *an* item to solve multiple puzzles etc)
Space Quest IV Discworld 2 Zack McKracken Hero´s Quest - so you want to be a hero (Quest for Glory) Monkey Island 3 Space Quest Space Quest III Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Blade Runner Loom
and no one mentioned Full Throttle either, which surprises the crap out of me I haven't played Sam and Max: Hit the road, babu, where would it fit in your top 10 list? give me a brief description of what to expect plz Also, Sam and Max has some new episodes (2006/7) made in 3d, although it's not from the original developer.
Well Sam and Max and Day of the Tentacle is my favorite adventures Others I can recommend is the Gobliiins serie
Barc0de, You list has a disterbing lack of Zonk in it. :crying: Anyways not bad list but you MUST get into space quest. Also personaly I would make "Grim Fandango" number 1. I just love that game too much. Also make sure to play sam & max. That game is very entertaining.
I would have placed Grim Fandango higher, but that's what IGN did! they put Grim #1 and I didnt want to copy them :icon_bigg Zork? As in.. Zork: NEmesis?
I would add Under a Killing Moon and The Pandora Directive to my top ten adv. games of all time, along with all point'n click games by Lucasarts and Sierra but then it will be the top30 and not a top10 anymore...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zork "West of House You are standing in an open field west of a white house, with a boarded front door. There is a small mailbox here. > Examin mailbox The small mainbol is closed." Ah the good ole days
phantasmagoria is a horrible game, but it is fun to play if only for the bad acting and cheesy rape scene. I think it made me laugh more then any other comedy based game(except lsl 1). Am I the only one who prefers the older sierra system(graphics with text input) to their later action icons setup? With the standard point and click it's much easier to just try every combination until you get it right, where the text input games make you think about what you actually want to do. A good example would be the first few police quests where you couldn't just "use gun" you had to "draw gun" and "shoot gun". Text input just seems like it offers more variables on what the player can do. and barcode, do you really mean to say you're not sure what zork is? And thanks alot for bringing this up. I was this close to finishing stalker and was about to continue playing Landstalker(didn't even think about the similar names until now, even though I've been playing both on and off for a week) but now I really want to go back and play a good text input adventure
To be honest, I had heard alot about Zork over the years, well before I had an internet connection - but due to the fact that I had nowhere to get the game from, I never actually got to play it. The name Zork:Nemesis has burned in my head for some reason. Regarding text input, it can be frustrating at times. LSL1 pissed me off a couple of times due to this actually!
