Somebody must have thumbs made out of steel. I hate the PS1 controller when I have to play fighting games. It's very useful for games like Resident Evil, since the d pad is separated so you can walk like a tank, but don't move diagonally. It's a controller emblematic of early 3D gaming.
That odd because the only thing it gave me a sore thumb is Super Nintendo controller. Only happen when I play Street fighter 2. I have no problem with the original PlayStation controller when playing Street Fighter collection on PS1. Everybody is different and so is their skin
this piece of s*** ... no way to find one, this model comes only with 1st gen of PS4 dev-kits. View attachment 10454
I agree. The Mega Drive controllers are really nice, especially the European ones. I'm not sure why, but for some reason the European pads are much more responsive than either the US or Japanese pads. I'd say the European pad is as good or better than the Saturn pad.
@ NetYaroze. LOL! best response on this thread. i wouldn't mind a crack at that ps4 pad though! (if dev pads look like that, should be a factory/retail standard, loving the plain black look to it! emphasis is on the F*ck as opposed to the LACE/packaging, why we get tech, FUNCTION!)
Interesting, as I have only played the Genesis, I only got to experience the official 3 & 6 button controllers. They feel good in my hands, but the buttons always felt "mushy." Not sure how to put it, & not sure if that's even what you mean by "more responsive." Also, I am loving the diversity in this thread. Surprised their is less Dreamcast love than I expected.
FIXED Dreamcast is a damn awesome console, maybe greatest console ever existed but Dreamcast controller may not be top of the list but Jesus Christ... it beats the shit out the XBOX360 controller combine with XBOX360 console aswell, by default. I'm sure there are plenty people outside the Assembler site loves the Dreamcast controller. Before you go crazy ape shit like you normally do. This is only my opinion
The Dreamcast controller isn't as bad as some people make it out to be, but the d-pad is easily the worst ever. I hated having to use it in Shenmue.
it only served it's purpose well for games that had extra info, like the RE series and dino crisis. plenty more games that gave a secondary screen reducing physical menu actions. the one thing those pads do excel at is DURABILITY, only the wavebird measure up there! one pad i did want, but it's EXORBITANTLY priced... a six-button dpad with a socket on top for a vmu, outstanding arcade pad if ever i saw one! (loaned friends, won't let me have it) looks strikingly similar to saturn pad.. nthego:
The Dreamcast controller was decent, but wasn't the best in any particular category. It built upon the Saturn 3D controller, which had a very similar layout - and it even had a port on the back of the controller, similar to the ports used in the DC controller. It had a pretty good analog stick, though not as good as some others. It had analog triggers, like the Saturn 3D controller, and which almost every subsequent controller had. The VMU was a nice concept, and could've actually been useful if developers had really done anything with it. As it was, it was pretty much useless. The controller had some interesting ideas, but the execution wasn't great. A lot of controllers took inspiration from the DC controller and improved on it. And as has already been said, none of this stops the Dreamcast from being an awesome console.
I didn't put "controller" in there since it seemed redundant. Since the thread is titled, "Your favorite controller," I assumed that people would make that connection in their head =] If you knew me, you'd know that I mainly go crazy ape shit when people state "In my opinion." =P I have no animosity/hate towards you Unknown, if I somehow put that across. I just pointed out that you bring sony into some conversations on here that had nothing to do with it, or incessantly/nonstop bash other companies when sony is being compared to anything. & I find it humorous at times, yes. That's it. I don't mind that you like the Playstation, I think most, if not all of us do. Anyway, I agree with the above statements on the DC controller. It's Dpad was pretty bad, but luckily I don't remember having to use it all too much. Not sure if the 360's is worse or better. la-li's comments on it are pretty spot on, too. I loved the VMU idea, but it was pretty damn useless in the end. I think overall, I just really loved the feel of it, & blocked out some of it's lesser traits.
I like the dual shock controllers, but out of them I like the 1st dual shock the most. Since the buttons aren't analog they are good for executing akuma's super move in street fighter alpha. My 2nd favorite controller is the classic controller pro. It is set up perfectly. It's prettty much the dual shock without rumble or clickable analog sticks. 3rd favorite is the saturn circle pad. The analog pad on that controller was smooth.
That would be my TRON XBOX 360 controller. Sure it's wired but it's awesome blue glow makes up for it.
I've always love the snes pad, however easily these days the Ps4 pad just feels so right. Personally i've never been a fan of the megadrive pads. Like the Dreamcast, tho after a few hours of crazy taxi the triggers make my finger sore. I do like the n64 pad tho, like the snes pad I grew up with it.
Overall favorite would have to be the Namco PSX stick. Here's one of mine: Runners up would be the Dreamcast Agetec Stick and the Wired 360 pad (preferably with transformable D-pad). Haven't had too much time with any of the Saturn Japanese pads, I'll have to plop down and test them out again. Early PS controllers were nice, pre-dualshock and analog dualshock. The only pads I don't like are Nintendo ones, pretty much in general. I strongly prefer the JP white wired GC controller over all other Nintendo pads, even Wavebird (having primarily used wavebirds and not having owned wired controllers for the longest time), but the shape is still awkward in my larger hands and the battery compartment keeps my fingers scrunched up and stressed (as does 360 wireless).
Ain't NOBODY calls me a favorite controller and gets away with it! *shakes fist* Oh, you meant "your"? Well, I rather like the Xbox 360 controller, it's very comfortable.
Hori Sindou Pad. I have a new favorite. I won this in an auction on eBay a few weeks ago and it arrived. It's quite comfortable, and the Dpad is quite reminiscent of the SNES pad. I could've gotten Hori's new Gem Pads, but I paid about $7 for this and it's worth at least 3X that.
