Just noticed this thread. The banner at the top always shows the "How to use the new site" so I never payed attention to it. Did not even notice the message changed after a while.
25 here. I've only been* a member since August, and I already feel like this is one of the most important gaming sites on the web. It's good to finally hear that the goal will be met.
There is potential for a stretch goal to add some enhancements. However, such enhancements would probably mean the yearly target would increase slightly per enhancement (as they have renewal fees to retain support). Staff are discussing feasibility and usefulness of such add-ons. Some could potentially be quite nice.
This isn't Kickstarter. Be careful with entertaining "stretch goals" which could instead pay for more months of service.
It is the most important gaming site. I lurked for years here until I finally gave in and made an account. I call it home now after spending the first years as XboxSurgeon on YouTube. I belong to other gaming sites as XS but it's the only one I ever come to. It is home.
More months of service will be covered next year. If you didn't notice, Kev said $1,440 for the year. If it should happen that we go over that target, then yes... we will consider implementing improvements rather than having money sit around for a year.
Yes, and if we get $2880 donated, I'd rather see two years worth of costs paid for than one year and "stuff". Just my opinion, but I prefer long term stability over the potential for new and shiny things.
Nobody said we would blow a shit load of money for "shiny things". There are things we could do with that aren't free. Also, nobody's going to keep donating to double figures once the bar hits the top... that's the way things go with donations. What we should do is have a system that allows multiple campaigns and automatic bars, so people don't have to keep asking how much has been raised. Guess what - THAT'S A PAID ADD-ON!
But why? With manual bars you can, uh, "not get around" to updating them, so there'll still be a bit of money coming in after the goal's met. Honi soit qui mal y pense
I did the same. When I registered here this summer I swore I had an account and asked if I could have it "re-opened" haha. In reality I've been lurking the entire time. I'd vote for saving the excess cash. You never know what for or when it can be handy.
