Our existing server has developed software errors not easily fixed without risking the site being offline for days. A sale came along this weekend from the hosting company so great that I immediately decided to move to a new dedicated server with SSD and more bandwidth for less money. Less money! We will be putting into place secure login, mobile optimizations, and more. The changes will be concurrent, so unlike our last migration where we moved from one software to another, we will just be moving between machines for better hardware. It should hopefully be painless. We haven't raised money for a while and I've been footing the bill since the money ran out last year. Our new server is $120 vs $149 for the old server. We need to raise $1440 for the year, or $720 for six months. The site is user supported and since 2006 we have been ads free. I hope we can continue this and I don't have to roll out ads, but it is a possibility if we can't make the fundraiser a success. As the console scene has aged, many sites past have vanished. What sets us apart is our longevity, our community, our depth of knowledge and willingness to help others. I urge you to support the site if you never have before. Even a small recurring donation goes a long way. Don't think the site can survive without your help. We had record low number of donors last time, and unless people step up to support the site, we will have to give up on the ads free model we have had for over ten years. -ASSEMbler
I donated a little bit of money a week or so ago. I hope you get enough money together through donations.
Thanks m8, I'm going through bad RL issues and trying to focus on something else like the site. The few donors like yourself are like a candle in the dark.
Awwww yeaaa. Great to hear. I was hoping you'd post something up. I hadn't heard site news on funding for a while. I can't speak to everyone but I forget without posts like these!
Lots of people giving small amounts would be preferable to the same few giving larger amounts every time
It's doable. With over 2,000 members visiting the site so far in 2017, if everyone who has logged in this year donated $1, we'd be well over target. I mean... if 10% of the users who logged in over the past week donated $5 each, we would have enough to cover site costs for nearly 6 months.
Just made a small donation. Happy to help the site stay ad free, and really hope your RL issues get sorted out as quick as they can
Expect a fews coins from me at the end of February! I can't afford it before then because of rent and tuition though. Hopefully your issues IRL get sorted fast.
Any XDK I sell from my marketplace thread will have 100% of the proceeds going to the site. I usually donate when I can but I feel this could generate more funds. Until then, I'll get something toward the site once I get my paycheck.
Just roll out wikipedia style requests for donations where half the screen is occupied. That will drive people to give lol. It's been a while since I've logged on but I have lots of awesome memories from this site and back when it was on ezboards... damn I'm old. I'll give when I can
Just put a pretty good amount of money in. You guys on here, as a whole collective effort, saved my behind in more ways than one, whether its me ripping vias off PCBs or asking stupid questions about PS1 lasers. Thanks!! Lol
