I will believe there was a Shenmue HD port whern I see it. If it were already done Sega would have retextured the licensed shit and released it by now right when the hype for Shenmue 3 was at it's highest.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand.

Such a shame to see that Microsoft is taking legal action against this guy.

He's distributed footage, like a lot of us on here have, but he hasn't actually leaked anything playable/ripped assets. I will never understand why corporations go so far to punish someone. Yes; what he did was technically "wrong", but in all honesty, has anyone been physically hurt by this? Has anyone lost a significant investment?
No, they haven't. All this has done is shown Microsoft/Rare/Nintendo the demand for this sort of project, and if anything, it has shown them the goldmine they are sitting upon.

This is the exact reason as to why so many devs are put off joining the scene. The little that they are able to put out can land them in big trouble, regardless of how many precautions they take. I know for a fact that there are devs out there holding back entire builds of unreleased games because they're (rightfully) too scared about the almost guaranteed repercussions that will come their way if the publishers find out about it.

This is also a reason as to why some stuff just does not go public. The less people that know about it/have access to it, the better for the source. I know its not what people like to hear, but its the truth.

That is unfortunate. Really disheartened to learn of this.

Actually it's the guys own stupid fault for trying to sell a story to a magazine about it after presumably getting laid off and stealing a build on his way out when it wasn't announced yet. That's grounds for legal action because he had a contractual obligation to Rare and MS of which he will have broken many parts. Any company would react that way, bugger all to do with the game, it's the circumstance.

I don't know the circumstances surrounding it. I was just assuming that he had been laid off and had an old build sitting around on a harddrive and wanted to let people see what could've been; the same thing a few FRD devs have done with BF3, though the majority of them haven't landed in hot water for anything like that. I just wrote my response to the quote posted above it.

Still, it was evident the project was cancelled well before he posted footage of it. If you worked hard on that project, I'm sure you'd want to let the world see your work, rather than just letting it sit rotting in Rare's archives.

I wasn't talking about this footage, neither was Anthony817, the thing about MS taking legal action was from way back in 2008 when the project first came to light publicly. No ones taking action against Rare Thief for sharing this footage.
