Seems the 360 has a few RPGs now and is getting more as well. Tales of Chopin (oh isn't it Eturnal sonata...bah we'll call it Tales of Chopin) Enchanted Arms Blue Dragon Lost Odyssey They any good? I'm Def getting Lost Odyssey This week the rest I'm on the fence about Especally after the Boring Demo Blue Dragon has.
I dont recall many more, which could also explain why japanese sales are still so pathetically low...
I think the 360 is doing as well as most Sega Hardware did in Japan. Not Huge but enough to actually say it has a fan base. Square actually has something in the works too The Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery Nippon Ichi also has Spectral Force 3 coming to 360 and Magna Carta 2 is coming. So the 360 has like 8 more J RPGs than the XBOX did.
Saturn had a better run there than anywhere else, so I fail to see the relation with the X360 here. I think even DC and MD sold more units in Japan...
The Mega Drive I think Only had 5% of Japan while Nintendo owned Everything. Dreamcast too which didn't have much sucess until after the plug was pulled in Japan. The 3DO even had it's fan base in Japan.....and all the good games for it just happend to release there. But we're digressing.
Blue Dragon was fun to play my review is here. Enchanted Arms isn't all that bad for $20 you'll get some fun out of it and some hilarious translations (excuse the crappy pic) Eternal Sonata looks quite pretty but is short and restrictive. Lost Odyssey I haven't played yet .
I'm sure there's somebody who already has done. Probably. 'Hey baby, I've got a rocket and you've lit its fuse'.
Both Xbox machines have set new lows. They've done worse than just about any Sega Hardware--even DC and Mega Drive.... unless they've made some huge strides I've missed in the last year.
I know this isn't a fair comparison, but - according to VGchartz, the X360's take-off has sucked in Japan compared to either the Saturn or the Dreamcast. http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?co...DC®2=Japan&cons3=X360®3=Japan&weeks=156
Tales of Chopin? Where did that come from? It's Eternal Sonata or Trusty Bell, depending on where you are.
Lost Odyssey comes out tomorrow. I can't wait. It looks awesome, and really is making me think it'll be the next-gen Final Fantasy 6 (the world, the way the story is presented, etc. are very reminiscent of FF6 from what I've seen so far). I also loved Blue Dragon. I know a lot of people hate on it, but it actually made level grinding fun. The combat initiation system in it was second to none. Job system was really good too. The graphics were stunning. The main problems most people had was the story and the characters. I liked the story alright, or rather, I really loved the world that was created for the game. Especially towards the end of disc 3, that stuff makes me really excited for the sequel (Blue Dragon 2, which has been confirmed, though Blue Dragon Plus should be neat too, I just hope for a US release). My only initial complaints about Blue Dragon were the framerate dips and the insanely easy difficulty. But playing on Hard Mode cancels out the easiness in a big way. So far, I'd rank the 360 JRPGs as such: 1. Blue Dragon 2. Enchanted Arms 3. Eternal Sonata Because... I'm sorry, Eternal Sonata sucked. Bad. It didn't have a plot, it might as well have not have had characters in it, it was just pretty to look at and had some good music. Outside of that, it was boring, stupid, and all around not fun. The weird thing was, it was painfully mediocre up until the end, where it just falls apart completely. Ugh, I hated that game. I hate that I wasted my time beating it too. Enchanted Arms was alright. The plot was OK. The grid based combat was alright as well. I didn't like how golems became irrelevant towards the end though, and this is with me even capturing the elementals. Though I did hate how the elementals started off at level 1 when you got them... ugh. Hopefully Lost Odyssey tops the list though. I'm really looking forward to it and I hope it does well in the US. Not too excited about Last Remnant since I don't hold Square in very high regards anymore. Infinite Undiscovery could be neat though, we'll see. I also hear the new Tales game is coming exclusive to the 360, so... that could be neat. I don't know anything about Spectral Force or Magna Carta (for some reason I kept thinking it was a sequel to MS's ill fated "Magatama"), so... dunno about those. Though what Microsoft NEEDS to do is buy the Panzer Dragoon license from the abomination that is Sega and give it to the only man who should've ever worked on it to begin with: Yukio Futatsugi. Granted, his idea for the "real" follow up to Azel Panzer Dragoon RPG is kind of weird, and would work better as an XBLA title. But I would like to see him do the Azel Panzer Dragoon RPG rail-shooter remake he wants to do. And maybe even some prequels (since, any hardcore fan of Panzer Dragoon knows PDSaga was the end of it, period).
Leave PD:Saga out of this. Blue Dragon, I played the demo and I was bored to tears, it was just another RPG, nothing special about it really, nothing like, say, PD:Saga
Oh, I would never compare any game to PDSaga sir. No game is even in the same league as it and Radiant Silvergun. I was just saying that the rightful father of Panzer Dragoon should be allowed to work on it again, as opposed to Sega butchering more IPs. Blue Dragon was good if you like old school RPGs. If you're tired of old school JRPGs, then na, you won't dig it.
I think Saga is one of those games that risking a sequel wouldn't be wise - although I know I d be in love with the idea. Be it the aged visuals, the originality of gameplay or the plot, the original game has a special place in my mind. I actually love the game's "crap" (compared to today's) visuals and wouldn't trade them for any remake! I m half-ok with someone doing another shooter though in the PD universe, as long as it clicks well with the older titles. Doubt it would beat PD:Zwei though
