http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/58519 Looks like you can all stop waiting for Duke Nukem Forever now :110: I wonder if any company would want to buy the IP and finish it? Or maybe one of Take-Two's own companies could.
I'm pretty sure Take 2 will buy up what is left of the company/Assets and ship the game off to one of their rockstar studios (or hell, maybe 2k boston). Either way, DNF is now DNN (Duke Nukem Never)
That's bad news, all I can hope now is that if Take Two takes control of the DN franchise they do a good job with it.
I wonder if any disgruntled ex-employees will reveal the story of what the heck they were doing all that time for 12 years. Though I guess a big portion of that was probably rewriting the game X number of times as they switched engines or what have you. At any rate, I can't say I'm too broken up over this. 3D Realms really caught lightning in a bottle with "Duke Nukem 3D", but in this day and age, do we really need another first-person-whatever game? Not really. The moment is over.
Duke Nukem Forever -> When? -> Whatever! -> Never! Anyway, i think that the DN franchise would do a great Gears of War type of game.
you could see this coming when you work on one game and leave it in development hell for twelve years with no funding this was bound to happen
Actually quite sad to see them go. Forget what they have done in the last 5 years. Back in the shareware days when I was getting into gaming these guys were the kings. The original Duke (side-scroller) was one of my favorite games when I was growing up. 3D was fun, and forever, well I was never going to buy it anyway. Shame it went this way, but I am not surprised at all.
This had better be a motherfucker publicity stunt. But I don't think it is. I can't tell you how crushed I am.
Read this at a brazilian game journalist blog: To finish this post, another one from the series " Shortest and concise releases of all times" - that arrive at my e-mail everyday: Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms. Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned. That's it! No title, no hello, goodbye or stuff like that. Short and rude. All this to prove that just because 3D Realms closed, Duke Nukem isn't dead "forever". At least on portables and cellphones, it still exists. Not that anyone still cares...
