I question if the lack of any news from sony is why they held release off till next year. It for a while looked like a November launch in japan could be a possibility.

I wouldnt be surprised if its $250USD at launch and $200 by the Holidays, just to screw over the fools like me who would buy one on launch.

$300 is good for something like a PS3 with extras or an XBOX w/Kinect. Not a good price for a handheld that may cause eyestrain. The Virtual Boy was $180 at the time of its release, according to calculation...that's $250 today!!!

You hardly get a launch without lines these days.

I think more important than the console price really will be the quality of games available at launch. And not just the quality but what they have to offer you can't get elsewhere. Nintendo is going to need high quality games to come out at a steady rate if the system will be that expensive. It's kind of funny that I think the Wii is still too expensive, but the 3DS still will probably cost more. And yet I bet the 3DS will be money better spent than on a Wii.

It will be money better spent since the wii is a 4 yr old console (9 if you count the GC hw that is based on) and not a hot item anymore, while the 3DS is all-new.

Nintendo is clearly testing the water here, since they got away with selling the wii for more than the GC, IMO they are trying to see if the 3DS will sell at that price anyways: if it does they'll make a killing, and if it does not they can always slash the price.

Me? I think a handheld with a resistive nonHD screen at $300 is a complete ripoff, so I'll wait until its $200 or less, no matter how mind-blowing the games are.

Even the new Nano has a capacitive multitouch screen

Guess who's holding that patent. Why would nintendo want to pay royalties?

Besides, it would break DS compatibility complete, there's not enough space on that screen for multiple fingers either.

I'll never buy one, I find portable systems pointless and this one screams "gimmick".

Took the words outta my mouth.

I can get a wii, extra controller, few games and a large pizza for that.

And it won't make a six year olds eyes retarded!

I have a feeling this means the 3DS will be around £250, especially as VAT went up to 20% today. :-(

Yeah, I'd expect £250, maybe a little higher to begin with.

It's interesting what a totally different situation it is now with Nintendo compared to when they made the DS announcement. Back then it seemed like practically everyone thought Nintendo were fucking nuts, that the DS would fail and possibly push them Sega-style into third party game development and eventual obscurity. Didn't take long for that to change.

It's still not real 3Dish. It's just a vision trick that works providing you're in the sweet spot and don't try to focus your vision on any part of the graphics/enviroment.

Personally I think it's a good jump for 3D but the only way we will get further is when it can be added with a camera to watch the focus of your eyes and adjust the image to allow you to focus on different parts of the world at different depths. Along with slight Game camera adjustments for when you head moves/tilts.

I boldly predict that the CE industry, at the realization that goggles suck and people cannot justify buying $100 pairs for quality sets of said goggles, will indeed push R&D For glasses-less 3dtv, price it competitively with current 3dtv and transition as they did with dlp sets.

Most consumers are stupid. Like how my Sony KDS-60A2000 provides a better picture than many led and LCD sets, they bought what was pushed on them.

Back onto the gameboy... There are those out there as blindly loyal to the gameboy brand as there are loyal to apple.
Push a product out and watch the fanboys... loyalists... masses buy it.

You know that guy who swears the PSPGo is t a failure?... Well, the nintendo version of that guy, times like, 1,000,000... <~ Indicates a repeating number.

    Btw.
    Afaik...

    (wow, acronyms.)

Nintendo is attending ces 2011. That starts in a day.
Likely for the purpose of an early announcement pre e3.
Any takers what it will be?
