Pretty much that, I haven't played with the 3DS that much but I'll say the PSP analog isn't as bad as most people say, it just sucks it has only one.

    Anyway, rant away

EDIT: on a second thought those Moga controllers for phones also have flat analogs, how do those compare to these other two?

3DS by far is less crap. Since the PSP one is in a bad spot, less range and too small.

Well I love PSP but sadly PSP was never a favorited by developers due to PSP hack that cause to decrease PSP games sales over the years. Other hand PSP sales was boosted because of Custom firmware.
Well I have to say PSP is a fantastic gaming device as for portable system and therefor I will not complain about the single analog stick alone.

Can't say much about 3DS because it just a another piece of shit. God knows who many DS version out there.

The PSP analog pad was okay for its time, but the 3DS Circle Pad is much better. Not as good as an actual analog stick, but very good considering how flat it is.

The circle pad is actually good, while the PSP analog nub is not as bad as some say, but it's not very good either and definitely not comfortable to use for longer stretches.

So many words, most of which have nothing to do with the topic and some of which are untrue (the 3DS being a version of the DS). Ever considered a career in politics?

Definitely prefer the Circle Pad. My thumb never slips off it, and I feel like the PSP's nub would be better if it were raised like a real analog stick, while the Circle Pad works alright without being raised.

The PSP is a piece of crap because it was made by sony & it says sony on it. Not to mention its sales sucked because nothing good ever came out on it. Nothing. Then as it was fading away, they released new versions that removed features (psp go) while newer versions of Nintendo Handhelds are always better. Sony should stick to making headphones/TV's & give up on the game front, as it is just pathetic what they put out. PS Vita, anyone? lolly.
Sorny should just copy actual good hardware from Nintendo/Microsoft, again, but they would probably just fail.

So to make my point again, the psp joystick provides none. As in joy. It provides plenty of stick, though.

On a more serious note, the PSP analog nub is pretty awful. Bad positioning, too flat, not very optimal for quick & precise movement.

I do not like the PSP analog stick at all. That's why I never bothered to play most of the Action library.
The 3DS stick is comfortable, as if somebody took the time to design the thing in such a manner that it would be optimal for gaming. When has Sony's controllers ever been comfortable for your thumbs? The 3000? That late in the life of the system?

I don't mind either, but a lot of psp games (shooters etc.) beg for a 2nd analog stick a la the ps2 controller :(

I wouldn't go as far as calling either of them "good" - but the 3DS version is significantly less crap.

couldn't handle any of those...caps for joysticks!
in order of item survivability in my hands as a gamer! (why i never use handhelds, way too small for my spades)
    ....
1, psp-xxxx = okay til the shooters are used, if it wasn't for the lattice-style texture to the analogue cap, my thumbs be slipping all over the show!
down side is, i ALWAYS hit the 'down' button on the digital pad! (shit or bust? BUST!)
2, psp-N1001 = a total joke all-round! the damn analogue is countersunk, and hand cramps kick off in less than a minute! just as well the WHOLE reason for having that useless POS as a HH was to hook it up to the TV and use a ps3 pad! WINNING! (shit or bust? SHIT!)
3, n3d.xxx = half of what ALL those analogue type ideally would be! be a nice addition if a lattice texture was applied to the cap for the thumb to grip, the cap itself is slightly concaved allowing thumb to sit neatly, and always centered! (that was loaned)
    ...
destroyed analogue caps simply by playing them, never got a chance to convert them to dust (by anger) beforehand, the playing took care of that!
the analogue low profile type is always subject to destruction if you look in it's general direction! shame i've NOT discovered a peripheral overlay attachment for ALL these analogue types! (only the ngb from late 80's did i ever see one for the dpad)
    ....
big bastard chunky controllers for me or GTFO! (levers and pulleys, not what the 'phablet' generation use for gaming)
    ....
    [edit]
    typo...

Well original DS flat stick is better than PSP stick but other hand DS is a shitty gaming device and so is 3DS plus I can remember my daughter used to play original DS and stick seems to wears easy than PSP stick but can't say same thing for 3DS though. That is my experience of it.

that all I can say folks.

3DS for sure. The concave and rubberized surface is far superior to the rounded grated PSP.

The original DS didn't have a stick, and is also not a "shitty gaming device" by any stretch of the imagination, except maybe for someone who worships at the altar of Sony and considers all other gaming hardware "shitty".

Psp really needed a bigger and less grindey feeling joystick.
