So the GPU shit isn't covered by the 3 year warranty...stupid. I'm still in warranty though so I'm good. I can ressurect it by using a towel at least while I wait for a box. I think if my 360 died and I couldn't repair it, I still wouldn't buy a PS3. That would end up costing me more in the long run since I seriously doubt i'd play it as much and it would cost more then a repair/new 360. Be nice to have though.
I've had my 360 for over a year now - and It's froze a few times but never broke like this. My brother just got his back not that long ago, his is newer than mine. Odd. ASSEMbler, I thought you had a dora the explorer faceplate at first xD
I do find it a bit strange that the people who have issues have them over and over and over again, yet there are some who have been playing for ages without issue.
A version of the 360. I know it has something to do with the core sizes but aside from that I can't tell you much. Mine hasn't had any problems but it's practically brand new, one of the later HDMI models with a BenQ. Freaks out if you tap the power brick the wrong way though.
My sister had one of the first round of 360's and it happened to last longer than i expected and she is only on her 2nd 360 so far but my friend has had 4 already. my current 360 had the 3 red rings but it now has 2 red rings but it doesn't seem to want to work at the moment. I guess some people are lucky and don't have problems while other just can't stop having 360 problems.
What Ape said, it has to do with the core sizes of the GPU/CPU (both are 45nm? or just one?). I also think it has to do with the type of Power connection it has. Some won't work with other due to difference in physical connection.
65nm CPU with a 90nm GPU. 175w Power brick and runs way cooler. Pretty much warm to the touch instead of scorching.
I have one of those 360's that came with the Germany World Cup faceplates and I've never had any problem with it, but I tend to play no more than two hours each time.
Jasper is the smaller die (I think 65nm) that has reduced heat output, so it fails less as it needs normal cooling.
