Thanks to our member and good friend, Kammedo, 64DD dumping is now fully possible in practice, not just myth.

Using Partner, a KMC n64 and (theoretically) any DD( retail or dev), the images can be transferred from magnetic medium into eternity.

I would like to personally thank Kammedo, because thanks to his dedication and efforts, the world over can now perhaps be a step closer to enjoying the legend of what is 64DD, even if they aren't one of the lucky few who can afford it.

Obviously, this is a technical triumph, so naturally don't go around asking for dumps. We all know they will happen one day, preservation being my main concern, but also it might give way to dev disks being uncovered, with corey's M3 disks comming to mind first.

    Great job Kammedo

Thank you so much Kammedo! Your efforts will mean that 64DD games will now be preserved and also we might just found out whats on those M3 disks now

This is really nice! *checks out the pics in the Collections Forum*

I just wish there were a guide, individual photos of the different development units, a list of which dev units were used, along with a "connect this to that," & etc. ;-)

Actually no, it wasnt necessary, at least for dev disks. So yes it is possible to get the content of those M3 discs (as its possible that it can be done with retail disks too) on a HDD.

Just a small note for the ones who would like to try this with mixed setups (directly from Big N's docs):

Warning : DONT TRY TO INSERT DEV DISKS IN RETAIL UNITS / RETAIL DISKS INTO DEV UNITS!! IT WILL SERIOUSLY DAMAGE THE DRIVE!!

How would you play the game once you have them is there a 64DD emu because I don't recall ever seeing one ( reason probably being as there has been no way to rip the games until now)
But this is amazing maybe someday some of those games on the disks will get released because a lot never got out when the console was alive. Great work Kammedo

Yes there is no emulator supporting N64DD right now..I will see if I can get in contact with the PJ64, Nemu authors.

Although I like the sound of it being added to PJ64 I think it would be nice to see it as a stand alone emu my self. If that was possible but then again F zero expansion would need the F zero rom. I thought project 64 already had some sort of way to play 64DD games because that game was dumped a while back and I'm sure I saw pictures of it working on the emu.

Zilmar used to have little to no interest in 64DD 3-4 years ago when we were discussing this topic. The main reason was the lack of workable material, ie game images.

I m sure that more than one person will be interested in making compliant emulators.

However, judging by the progress made ever since the released F-zero Xpansion dump, no one has really taken interest in the subject - and even those that have werent pationate enough to give us working results.

the pictures you saw were probably from nemu64. lac dumped the f-zero x expansion kit long time ago and started adding 64dd support to the emulator, but that version never came out.

it would be great to be able to play dd images on a z64, but that seems impossible by image sizes alone. xP

Hm.. How so? Z64 has flash card support lately as far as i know too :p
Surely it would be a matter of memory mapping but a new bios would fit the job.

Oh man Im sorry to hear! Thats actually strange i must admit...possibly he broke it? xD
