come to think of it, those do seem far friendlier than the tools of this place, well, not everybody is but the notable one DO ruin it for the rest!

 

As mentioned earlier, it's all manual. It doesn't mean you donation wasn't received, it just means Kev hasn't updated it yet.

People have been known to throw little tantrums over this, believe it or not... :-S

 

I am amazed to read people mentioning Lancashire and Ramsbottom in particular on here. I live in Tottington, which is 5 minutes travelling time by car.

well, I dont know really... if it works, it works.
no idea what other people who donate think about it, but I donate because I want to. Im not asking anything back from it, and I'm not expecting to get anything out of it.
I donate because I don't want the site to dissappear, that's all. There's always those people who won't donate no matter how long they use the site, and I dont really think that forcing them to do so is a good idea.

the value of this place comes from it's users and despite if they donate or not, losing users over forced donations will damage the site itself, more than potentially lost donations I think. And im saying potential, because we're talking about people who don't donate to begin with, so keeping them doesn't increase donations, but losing them potentially loses content from the site.

either way, I'm just rambling my head off here.
Hope you come up with something that pleases majority of people. Can't please them all anyway

Just use capital letters at the beginning of sentences and add a period (or !/?) at the end. And don't separate your paragraphs with dots (...) and everybody we be happy.

It's just that the unusual use of formatting you often use is hard to read. People here are way tolerant on weird/foreign grammar, but even if there's no error at all in your posts if the formatting is weird it'll be hard to read. In the end it's helping yourself getting understood.

This thread is an eyesore to say the least (not the content so much as the formatting). About bandwidth, I assume all thread images are hosted elsewhere like imgur? So that's a non issue really. But if traffic is as heavy as implied, AdSense it for sure. I just joined after years of lurking to get that huge anime type graphic off my screen, so maybe people will just sign up to avoid ads and this won't generate that much revenue. Some sites have a voluntary zone to click through ads to support the site, maybe that could be done? That's something I think most people would do in a heartbeat compared to giving up some cash.

Also, maybe I'm just getting a great deal, but I co-located a server for $45 a month + $150 up front with no bandwidth limitations (yet). Co-location is the way to go.

 

I think AG is hosted on a dedicated (if not private) server, for legal concerns.

 

Wouldn't owning and co-locating be better for these legal issues vs renting/leasing?
