hi people havent posted on assembler for a while but anyway. I have 2 softmodded Crystal xboxes one with a stock HD and one with a 160gb what would be the best way to put a 300gb into the crystal with the stock HD. Im asking as its been a few years since ive tinkered with the OG xbox so im a bit out the loop as it were
Need a BIOS with LBA48 support. Stock BIOS is only LBA28 and that tops out at 137GB. If the crystal console is one of the later models then it will be a 1.6 and thus a modchip is the only way to get a BIOS with LBA48. If it's earlier like say a 1.5 or earlier then you can just TSOP flash the new BIOS in. That's the first step.
I find this odd. Why does it matter what the stock BIOS supports? Once the softmod loads, it can load an LBA48 hack. LBA28 is sufficient for loading the data on partitions 1-5. Maybe nobody ever implemented that for soft modders.
from what ive read Chimp will allow me to clone a existing HD to a bigger drive so im gonna do that to my stock crystal and keep my other one for homebrew and such and have the 320 for emulators
Get chimp that is compatible with 1.6 xbox versions. ( think its v2.618 ) Stick it on the xbox, backup your EEPROM before doing anything. (To your computer, some people backup & leave it on the HDD lmao) Turn your xbox on, disconnect the DVD drive IDE & plug it into your new drive, make sure its set to slave, or your xbox will hang, you also need to power the new drive. Y cable or external power ( extra xbox ;-) ) use a scart cable or original av cable, chimp doesn't like 720p. Boot chimp & select fatx from the menu, it will boot into Linux, select option 1 make sure both drives are found & the your new drive is hdb (slave) select option 2, select yes to format hdb, then select the option you want after that. I use the partition clone way, that way I can just copy C & E, faster. when done you need to lock the new slave drive, its option 4 or something, set the new drive to master & test. I only use 1.1 - 1.5 Xbox's since I flash the tsops, so the locking part I don't use, hence why I'm not sure what number it is exactly.
For a long time softmod wasn't really easy to upgrade your hard disk for. Probably why. But a 1 wire Aladdin chip will remove this issue completely...
actually ive got another question il ask here rather than start another thread. How would i go about adding unleashx to run when i boot with eject (currently eject launches avalaunch)
Simple way would be to run the softmod installer again, and select UnleashX. Or use AID and select Softmod Installs and select UnleashX. It's probably a good disc to have around for new users, however I'd advise to be careful installing dashboards manually if you're unsure.
yeah im not new to the xbox stuff as it were i used to be really into it back when there was a scene (2004-2007) so im a bit rusty and behind
Absolute nonsense. You don't need a chip to have a larger hard drive. All modern softmods support LBA48, and all will work with larger hard drives quite happily. Adding LBA48 support is one of the many things that NKPatcher does when your softmod boots.
Well excuxe me. I didn't know of NKPatcher and my softmod systems would never work with the bigger drives.
im just thinking would i be able to use XBOXHDM to add a softmod to the hard drive while its connected to my pc
You can pretty much copy the softmod exploit to the UDATA completely skipping the step of using a USB/Memory Unit. Or go through the NDURE method normally. Just make sure you create the XBOXHDM disc with your EEPROM that was previously backed up!
