This is going to sound stupid but where exactly is the download link?

Edit: Ahh, COD from Sega, ah well. Anyone who downloaded already want to share with me?

Regarding Sega pulling a C&D: I think it wouldn't have been a problem, say, 4 years ago when Sega weren't using the franchises on current consoles, but the fact that the Streets of Rage games are being released on several compilations of late means they haven't finished using it. Sadly, from what I've played of it the game appears to rip a lot from the franchise when they could have made it their own. If they hadn't ridden on the back of Streets Of Rage and developed their own characters and IP, then they would have been far better off both physically and monetarily. I say: scratch the Sega-owned content and re-release it on it's own merits rather than on someone else's coat-tails.

If you cover a song, you need the rights and consent of the authors at publication time. If you re-do a movie, you need the consent of the copyright holders. You wouldn't be surprised if Warner pulled a remake of The Matrix with CGI likenesses and the complete dialogue from the movie, so why does anyone think it's different for games?

Let's hope for the best, and let's hope that Sega are going to bring on the programmers to republish it properly.

I think it depends on the quality of the final product. Sega knew about this project for years and did nothing. They thought it was either never going to be completed or suck. So when it finally was done and enough people liked it, in jumped Sega with the corporate banhammer.

Back in 2009 some kids did a fan made Zelda film. Nintendo did nothing because the film was wretched and forgotten about within a day.

    and here it is: http://www.destructoid.com/legend-of-zelda-hero-of-time-fan-movie-now-out-157900.phtml

Palette change + name change = fun.
They could call it Spare Knuckle and change the characters names.

As I understand it, the sad fact is that corporations have to defend their copyright property or risk losing it. If someone can demonstrate in court that Sega didn't defend the copyright for Streets of Rage when they knew someone else was using it then that party could potentially argue that Sega had essentially voided their rights to it.

This is copyright law as I understand it, if it's not accurate then someone please correct me.

It's quite possible that the people in charge of copyrights back then were a different department. Forward a few years and some arse hole become head of copyright protection and heads on out like a tyrant to squash everything in his path

Hopefully the download will spread like wildfire enough so that Sega's COD will be irrelevent.

Fan game played by, say, 10 people: not interesting.
Fan game with global media hype and thousands of downloads: too interesting, which is why SoR Remake mentioned in the last version to 'not tell Sega'. :p

Trouble is: at no point did SoR Remake show they had written permission from a recognised authority to use the logos, imagery or sounds from Streets of Rage. Without that, they haven't got a case - emailing a random lackey at Sega of America saying 'Look! We're making a fan game. Is that OK?' doesn't give you the rights.

SEGA released Streets of Rage II on the AppStore today. This is one of the reasons why the send the COD.

It's a pity that BomberGames hard work is being pushed in the dark alley's of the internet. But then again also understandable why SEGA chose this path....

Amazing, do you think its a quickie port done after the new interest from the fan game?

@DeckardBR, nah I guess this port was planned all along. SEGA is releasing the Mega Drive / Genesis backcatalog strategicly on the AppStore for some time now.
