I really hate flying, seems I spend most of my life in line waiting for planes. Hes some I travelled on recently -

Jet2.com - Not bad for a locost airline
BA - Cant fault but can be pricey
KLM - if your going thro Amsterdam kiss your luggage good bye and prepair for a long walk.
    BMI- Robbing cunts.
Air Berlin - spent 3 hours on a plane waiting to take off, not nice.
Lufthansia - Not bad make sure you fly thro Munich airport for free Tea and Papers.

I'm on at least 4 flights every year for the past 13-14 years now, and even though things have been changing alot these past few years their not much worse off then they've ever been.

Lines seem to have gone down for check in from years past, largely due to the 'do it yourself' terminals (though now their's even fewer actual employees at check in if theirs any problems). Security is more of a pain to deal with now then ever, but theft of check-in luggage has gone down (I've only had one instance of luggage theft in the past four years). I also had my wallet stolen about two years ago at an airport even, and was able to recover it (sans about 1k in cash that I was foolishly carrying around).

Not really a point to this post, just rambling off some of my experiances...

It's not bias, just experience. I have flown with a lot of airlines. American long haul seems to be like domestic with a dinner, the planes are usually old and cramped, the staff are obnoxious and the whole check in and out is badly organised usually. The airlines I listed offer by far the best service in my experience, you pay a bit more but it is definitely worth it. BA have slightly better service, Virgin offer better entertainment. All offer professional and polite staff who are very helpful, good food (for airlines), clean bathrooms, and modern aeroplanes.

I also recommend Singapore Airlines, Quantas, and Southwest for domestic US.

Worst flights ever: Landing into Crete on a prop plane with Olympic (the aeroplane was deafening for the entire flight and the pilot nose dived onto the landing strip, I literally thought I was going to die!) and a Continental flight from Gatwick to Newark.

I actually had the best experience flying that Ive ever had in March / April. Flew from Albany to Ohio, so it was only an hour flight. I played in the Pep Band for Uaalbannyyy so we got a coach flight with just us, the cheerleaders, and a few media people. I had absolutely no one setting in the 2 seats next to me, and neither did most people. We drove straight onto the runway in our bus, went through a quick security thing and right onto the plane. Awesome experience.

yeah BA is very good IMO, the food aboard is nice also!!

having tried about 15 different Airlines so far, for me its
    JAL>BA>...>Air France

My JAL flights were great, very clean and confortable, nice food and lots of good snacks in between, individual LCD's with about 6 different movies, radiostations, videogames etc, great staff and great pilots xD (smoothest takeoff/landings/flights I ever had)

I would also recommend Emirates. Best airlines ever.

On a side note, I've travelled using Delta in the US, wasn't that bad IMO.

So far I've only used KLM, IcelandAir and Ryanair the only one leaving a sour taste in my mouth being the former. Apparently their idea of a return flight is that you arive at your destination and then they don't fly you back....had to grovel at EasyJet to get home that time.

IcelandAir isn't too bad aside from the fact their planes are ridiculously diminutive, I took a small connecting flight from the U.K to Iceland (and then to the U.S) only to find that we'd be crossing the Atlantic on the same cramped plane.

    No problems with KLM.
