I did not vote for either person, but it seems
the US has made a huge change. It is so
exciting here the air feels charged.

People are looking towards a better future.
There is even talk of war crimes trial for bush.

This is such a good change for this country.

I can only hope it is more than words.

A huge burden has been shed and the ghost
of the past racism is buried, people are openly weeping.

    Exciting times.

I totally agree with the comments from Assembler and Karsten.

I watched the whole speech made by Obama, in Chicago. Not only it was good, but inspired and honest. He seems to be a great man, a man with integrity and commom sense.

I'm not american, but i got very happy with his election. I have nothing against McCain, but i guess that Republicans lost a lot of respect after the Bush administration.

Anyway, ever since Obama started his campain on the Democratic preliminaries, i always thought he was the man for the job. Someone new, with decent and good ideas, that can put this world back on track.

Even the world is optimistic and welcoming the new US President.
They really didn't react this way when Bush jr. became president back in 2000.

Any candidate would've been better than Bush :p.

I just hope things really get sorted out now (as regards the US foreign policy and the economy).

I am very happy Obama has been elected. But people need to remember that just becasue the guy you vote for gets elected doesn't mean you automatically get everything you want. It does mean that there is someone in office who may listen to your demands, however. So really now is the time to write letters and make speeches and protest even harder.

Voting in a half-cast president does not undo all the hypocracy and shame of hundreds of years of slavery in 'the land of the free'. It was only 50 years ago that black people were forbidden by law from sharing the same toilets as whites.

One of the things that really bothered me last night was all the shit on TV about how epic this election was, how it will shake the world, how it was one of man's greatest achievements (since we landed on the moon!) and how this proves racism is no longer an issue because Obama is Afro-American. The irony! When an 'afro-american' president gets voted in and the biggest thing about it is the colour of his skin, then it's not no longer an issue. It's a proud moment for black people and I share their joy at seeing the day, but the media hype is far too much. Why are we still using the phrase African-American, anyway? They are Americans. Race will remain a big issue in the US for many more years, probably centuries.

It's great he won, I think it was the best choice. But let's get some prespective here. 4 years is not going to change much, 8 years perhaps he could really make an impact. The legacy he leaves for the next guy is what will matter. Then let us really proclaim him to be something special, not because he sets a new record, which shouldn't be a record in the first place.

So far we have no proof that he is going to be a good president, other than some smooth talking and an expensive campaign. It's not like he has much to live up to, compared to Bush.

I walked outside of the library last night at around 11:30PM and I heard cheering from a mile away. Apparently there was a mob that gathered and marched from downtown to the student apartments saying "Yes we can."

There are also rumours going about that one of the goalposts was lifted from the football stadium but I don't know how true it is.

There is a new energy in the air around here (not global warming) and it feels good.

I agree with you. But i disagree when you say when 4 years won't change much. I know that he said the same thing as you on the acceptance speech, that 4 years probably won't be enough. But the biggest difficult when people decide to change something, is the start. The man wants to do that.

Of course, there will be no "revolution", but i think he is the man to put things back on track for the next one (or if he runs for re-election in 4 years).

You're right again. But after 8 years of Bush, everybody finally have hopes. Maybe the USA can now stop act like the "World Police" and then care for the people.

I would've voted McCain had I received my registration confirmation in time (my college dorm mail system "lost" it.)
I'm not a huge fan of either, but I'm even less of a fan of Obama.

I am glad that you all are happy with your choices and what has happened.

However I think Obama's victory has been quite obviously blown way out of proportion. So far, like Taemos has said, all we've seen him to be is a excellent speaker and money spender.

Now I wonder what the media will have to complain about that now Bush will be leaving the scene.

This is the type of thing I don't get, and I don't get it from all the people who didn't vote yet say things now. Not voting means that more stupid people their vote actually counts more, when are people gonna realize that.

IIRC, he's exercized his presidential powers of pardoning upon himself so I doubt it. Personally, I'd love to see it though.
